OK, so, we have addressed in each era, our favorite years.
So, while I think I could probably name who is an 80s head, a 70s head, 60s head or 90s head... let's vote on it.
Of course... I was once told there is no such thing as a 70s head... by "told", I mean "compelled to accept"...
So, what makes each era the favorite for you?
The point of this isn't to prove one era is better, just to see where we stand on the distribution of headedness |

There, I said it...
Keith & DONNA
Mostly because of the material they were coming out with at that time.
But, that is my feeling today and in the morning I'll pop in a '69 Darkstar>St. Stephen>Eleven and change my mind. |

Pipen era for me.
Jerry's guitar sound was never better than in 68.
Plus, Pig was funky. |

So far this is breaking down like I expected it to, though I think in the end the Keith Era will probably prevail. |

How about the KEITH era! Specifically Donna Free 73. However when I crank up a Hard to Handle I could be persuaded to change to the Pig era!

I voted for I couldn't decide.
My favorite quasi-era would be '73-'81. Favorite 3 consecutive years is 78-79-80. But '91 MIGHT be my favorite year _________________ He's always lived by the golden rule, that's why he'll never be mayor! |

Swami's Top 100 Shows (see Required Listening thread) - representation by Era:
Pigpen -- 1
Keith & Donna -- 15
Brent (pre-coma) -- 48
Brent(post-coma) -- 15
Bruce&Vinny -- 9 (incl 3-23-95)
Vince only -- 12
That about represents my taste for the different eras. _________________ Even the blind man knows when the rain is falling. |

I am completely 100% a Keith era fan. I do listen to quite a bit of PigPen era and early Brent era, but spend most of my time in the confines of 73-77. I like most would have liked to strangle Donna at moments, but will put up with some squeals for the pure magic of these shows. |

My thoughts exactly!
And welcome aboard.
I think that is one reason people dig E72 so much... great playing, not much Donna. |

This isn't easy, if I stick with the meat of 72-74 shows and then run for 77-79, it would be very easy to vote Keith. But the Brent era is more my home, I think. I wouldn't say it's "better" but it drives me crazy when people dogmatically insist '70s is better. '70s is more classic in some ways, and if I had to turn someone on to the Dead late '70s would probably be the easiest sell. Brent plays some awful sounds. Anyway, I voted Brent. |

While I went to most of my shows during the Brent era and was to young for the Keith and Donna era I still come home every night and listen to a show in it's entirety. Nine times out of ten it is a Keith and Donna show. I just love was that acoustic piano brought to the band. I get all depressed all the time that I never saw them in the 70s. Thank God though we have all these awesome tapers out there that make it possible for people like me to enjoy those shows like I was there _________________ NOBODY NOTICES WHAT I DO UNTIL I STOP DOING IT!!!!! fucking bullshit if you ask me, because I always have to explain what I'm doing.
