8/21 and 8/22/68 Fillmore West seem to get a lot of attention, and of course 8/24/68 became 2 From the Vault...but 8/23 @ the Shrine is killer! sound is very nearly as good as on 2FTV...disc 2 of this is great, great GREAT, headphone music...lights down low, preferably. I have every available show from '68, this is one of the ones i return to with the most frquency (along with 9/2 and 1/22).

Damn WVhead - you're all over the map....one minute it's '94, the next it's '68. That's fuckin cool.
Much like a drunk Schwartz weather-cast, this is hereby a drunk posting.
Having said that I'd love to be in West VA right now hangin out and passin a bowl of some skunk.
Have you been to Spruce Knob? Highest point in West Virginia - a truly divine and magical place. _________________ Even the blind man knows when the rain is falling. |

West Virginia sure is beautiful-beyond-words in the autumn.
today i have listened to '93, 84, 77, 66, 68...i love all eras of this band...obviously. plan on closing out the night and transitioning into dreamland with 6/23/90.
currently blasting 9/2/68's The Eleven through headphones as i type this. LOVE that show...Betty Nelson's Organic Raspberry Farm! |

Indeed it is - as I recall early2mid October is peak foliage. 30 min from the Knob?! I seriously envy your lifestyle....
I have many memories from that mountain "corridor" with my ex-girlfriend...was our place to get away from everything....nothing but pure nature and genuine people.
Anyway back to your thread - a smokin '68 show. _________________ Even the blind man knows when the rain is falling. |

Just updated my profile with location - good call.
Twin Cities is definitely one of the prime places to be in the US of A, although more and more I feel like movin' to Canada. Northern latitudes come with the right attitude.
New Potato Caboose was a song that defined 1968. How's the version in this show? _________________ Even the blind man knows when the rain is falling. |

the Caboose is part of the filler that comes before the show proper on the disc...labeled 8/29 but there's a lot of debate surrounding that...it probably is from May or June...it's good, but not even CLOSE to 8/24/68 (@ From the Vault...the DEFINITIVE version in perfect sound).
if they had played New Potato Caboose on 8/23, it would have been the best show of 1968, hands-down. |

I guess that, attitudes aside (though the Canadians I met overseas were all very dismissive of America/Americans/etc.), the cold weather is the ultimate deterrent for me. It is just miserably cold.
Keep in mind, the cold... my blood is thinned from having lived in Italy, Afghanistan & Iraq. When I moved to NYC, I felt like I was in the north pole...
So, Florida, or CA, that's the place for me. |

The Caution in this show is just sick! I remember the first time I heard this piece of music. Gans was playing selections Dick had picked for Jerry's memorial service on the GD Hour. I was as happy as a man can get to have been smart enough to have my tape deck running that night. In this digital age, these kinds of moments are much easier to come by, but I know all of my friends loved their cassette copies in the weeks that followed the broadcast. |
