I listened to the Cotsman one here.
So Jerry brings everything to the table on this night, can't ask for a better sound out of his guitar, some great 68 in this. The vocals on this recording are a little low in general but not bad, it would be nice to have a little more up front Pigpen. Seemed like there was a little hiss in spots too.
There is a cut into the Cryptical Envelopment right before The Other
One, whatever, a small snippet leading into TOO.
Phil sounds great in TOO, nice Garcia. Pretty short Other One, and goes
back into the Cryptical reprise, cools out, some good noodling.
Schoolgirl.
Pig sounds great, other than the mix issues, good stuff. Garcia sounds
phenomenal at this point with that aforementioned sound. Great
rendition of this song.
Remember, Pigpen does not care if you're only 17.
Alligator starts out a little slow and then Garcia shows up again.
Obligatory primal drumz, (alligator is a good drumz jam, some mojo
voodoo action.)
Garcia and Weir rapping Alligator runnin round my door, kind of cool.
Track 9 is powerful indeed, a hot awbygn extendo jam. Wow. Garcia, jeez.
Weird organ sound around 5:10, might as well point that out, but this track really did it for me.At 6:28 Garcia actually misses a note and proves that he is fallible. Real nice jam though, can't say enough about this bad boy, just great
stuff. Off into feedback once again.
Then we cut shortly into a period Dark Star after feedback winds down.
Kind of a boring Dark Star, but, again, Garcia sounds fantastic.
At around 12:40, we get some sweet gong action, but this Dark Star has
that repetitive organ note action and that annoyed me after a while.
Not bad, though, fair version.
St. Stephen heats it up immediately, clean and crispy and good,
rolls into William Tell-Eleven, sweet organ roll at 1:09 signaling the
entrance into the Eleven, and then the freight train is going at full
tilt. About 4:22 - :25 descending Jerry sequence is sweet as hell, love
those. Also some nice organ solos thrown in there. This sequence here is a major player, the Eleven is flat out awesome, far and away the best
track on this show besides the "Alligator jam," still tops it. Almost
bogs down in a few places but Jerry just puts on a clinic in this one,
and Captain Trips commands the army into the nether regions of sanity,
12 solid minutes of highlight material. The Eleven segues into Death
Don't Have No Mercy, decent, sorry guys, this song is not my favorite,
but it is solid and moody compared to others I have heard, great stuff if you like it, at 3:45 there is a cut.
Lovelight is fun Jer and Pig, GD, give it a B for a letter grade.
Smooth, ends up with more JerJams and Pig in Midnight Hour rolling slow
and strong, and finishing it out in style.
Not a bad show by any means, and worth a listen if you can get to it.
Sorry about the uneven document style with this post, but I screwed something up there, will try to clean it up here.
OK back to 84 aud stylee.
