#30 3/24/1981 Rainbow Theater, London, England
#29 3/12/1981 Boston Garden, Boston, MA
#28 12/2/1981 Assembly Hall, U. of IL, Champaign, IL
#27 9/6/1983 Red Rocks Ampitheatre, Morrison, CO
#26 7/6/1990 Cardinal Stadium, Louisville, KY

He's Gone fans - this one's for you. 3 Gones out of these 5 Kasems, as well as three in a row from 1981. Actually 5 POL in a row are from 1981, #s 28-32. With the exception of the fine Red Rocks show (#27), which is pretty well-known, these selections are vastly under-appreciated in my book - which is a theme that repeats itself here in the upper quadrants of the countdown.

Yes, I agree, and am excited that the upper 25 will have under appreciated shows, as maybe I won't be familiar with some.

I can't say enough about the Red Rocks, I've reviewed it twice already here.

Cardinal Stadium, with the pre-drums power saga viewable on one of the VFTV efforts is one of my prime cuts. That SOTM>Gone>Gone Jam works 100% of the time.
I assume there is a higher rated 90 show than this...
I also assume we've seen the last of 1986 by this point.

I was at these two shows. The Red Rocks gig was truly titanic. From the 30-minute combo of Birdsong>Lazy>Supplication>Might as Well to the unreal pre-drums voyage of Help>Slip>Frank>PITB it was wall-to-wall jamming. The only soft spot of the show, in my experience, was a pedestrian drumz outing and a Space session that definitely involved some latter-half stalling as Weir and Garcia toyed with UJB while waiting for the rest of the band to mosey their way back to the stage.

Louisville was a big-ass outdoor summer stadium show. One cool thing that happened was meeting Owsley. He was inside the venue selling his jewelry on a card table at the far end of the field. He had one of those tropical tans best kept to lizards and Miami goombahs (or Keith Richards). I really wish I had bought something from him. I knew about him from an American Folklore book I read in high school, so my familiarity with Owsley predated my life as a Deadhead.

Altogether, how many of the listed 80 were you at?

I'll have to check from home (the [CENSORED] s that run Planet Earth have me chained in a cubicle right now) but we're up to 14 so far; if we rack up a few more hits from Fall '84 it'll go higher than that.

Both of these assumptions proved to be wrong.

Fall '84 as well as Spring '85 fell pretty flat in the ratings, scoring only 1 Point of Light each - interestingly, the tour openers. This was not an expected outcome going into the project, but in retrospect so many of those shows (i.e. Berkeley Community) have moments of greatness but have some fundamental flaws. Same goes for Fall '83 East Coast.
