I am sure there was no irony involved. I believe Freaks and Geeks was planned out. The Dead references are throughout the series.

Another series that has this is Franklin and Bash. At one point Zack Morris is defending American Beauty. (sorry, I don't remember if he was Franklin or Bash) Then in another episode they were dealing with a client named August West. I went crazy when this happened!

I want to say I almost remember the August West thing...
I don't remember Z Morris defending American Beauty.
Mr. Morris was "Saved by the Bell".

It is the same actor, um Mark Paul Gosslear or something like that. It was in an early episode if i remember correctly.

Yes, that was one of two Z's if I recall...

Franklin and Bash is a show on TNT about "renegade lawyers". They are known for their crazy in-court antics. It isn't bad and has a great cast including Malcolm McDowell, Heather Locklear, and appearances from Jane Seymour.
