5/10/80 - the comeback of this tune in the Brent era. Great show and great version, despite the M-80's...

8/19/80 or 8/26/80 - cant remember which is the better AUD - but both are in the interesting post Space segments.

8/31/80 - AUD is B+ but better than the SBD which is oversturated

Any of the versions from the 85 Fall tour. Richmond 11/1 especially. The OADE recordng blows the DP version away

4/4/87 Centrum. The Sennheiser recording is really good. Great version too.

3/27/93 Knickerbocker

Surprise surprise. They played all of these Comes A Times at great shows with great setlists... Cool

6/25/91 out of space is nice, listen to the space also, at least to hear the hints of CAT in there, really good job (and then, you might as well hear the GDTRFB after it, when Bruce brings that song to its knees).
This is probably my favorite from the 90s.

Hah! I started that because I was looking for good versions myself, and it's been a very busy week, so I'm a little behind on that even. AUDs though? I will look more into the sources and try to come up with more picks for this thread, but hard to beat 5 4 77 for straight up great versions of this song . That one is a good one for sure.

2nd set here speaks for itself:

Estimated, Scarlet> Fire, Terrapin> Playin> Comes A Time> Playin

I am far from a Comes a Time critic, but I just listened to 5/29/80aud and it was solid. I also enjoy the one from DP 29.....5/21/77

Duderino, the AUD sounds pretty good to me, the crowd is pretty quiet, nice tone, and captures the sound of Jerry's guitar and voice pretty well.

Here's a matrix of the second set if you are interested.

7/17/76 at the Orpheum....I listened to when I got up this morning as well as on the way into work. I think it is outstanding. I had never listened to the entire Jam before, and Im glad I finally did. I will also say that the Jam out of Comes a Time should also be called "Beautiful Jam" with 2/18/71. Im sure most of you have given this show at least one listen, but if you have not please do. I think this second set holds up against any era by any standard. Actually, I was a little suprised how freakin good this really was. I have heard the rest of the shows in the run and i think this may be the best of the best of '76. That is saying a lot going up against Boston and a few others.......As you can tell, I am quite impressed right now.....Dig it... Very Happy

Amen. This comes a time opens up into some amazing music. Also, check out:

05/10/80 (Sat) Hartford Civic Center - Hartford, CT

Set 2: China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider, Feel Like A Stranger > Comes A Time > Estimated Prophet > He's Gone > Uncle John's Band > Drums > Not Fade Away > Sugar Magnolia, E: Alabama Getaway, E: One More Saturday Night

Stranger>Comes a Time is really nice, segueing into an excellent sequence of music. "Uncle John's Band" could quite possibly be my favorite. Garcia goes wild.

Just gave it a listen myseelf after reading what you wrote. It's been a while. Cool Cool The jam is nothing short of spectacular. A lot of folks cconsider 76 to be a weak year for the boys. You wouldn't know it with this beauty!! Thanks for meentioning it again. Think I'll give it another spin Very Happy

I'd agree that 7/17/76 may be the best second set of the year (though 7/18 gets all the hype).

I think you mean 6-14-85.

I'll see that and raise you a 6-24-85 Riverbend.

For a comletely different perspective on this tune try some of the earlier versions in 71. I'm not saying I like them better but you can see how the song progressed. October has the the most.

Thanks for your suggestion I picked out 10/27/71. I am just listening to the Comes A Time though. The song does seem differrent, I can't really pick up on the differences, other than I know it is. Ha ha. Seriously though, this is a good version. Falsetto Jerry for a second also!!!

Swami and I found a new, not so new, but perhaps not well known, CAT that is amazing.
8/31/80
Comes out of Sailor>Saint and goes into Truckin...

It's pretty much as pretty as the song can get!
