I stumbled upon a copy of 3/29/95 today.. but wait, theres a twist! It was a recording of what was coming from Phil's Ear Monitor Feed! Loved it, there is a lot of good banter coming from Phil and Jerry, including Jerry getting a little pissed at someone from the soundboard.

Are there anymore of these recordings out there?

P.S. Colonial, I think i saw a comment of yours on there:
"I had to stop listening
I was always under the aaaumpton that they all agrred on the first and last aong of a set and whatever in between just happened. I truly believed it and for me when I heard that it knocked the wind out of me. I still can't believe. It. I always thought they had played together for so long that they just knew where to go next"

I always thought that this way of going about songs faded out during the later years. It might have been due to the fact that they started using the teleprompter all the time, so the songs had to be planed out.

I had read something that said by the end Vince was actually picking a lot of the setlists! That would explain some of the lamer ones...

Anyhow, regarding the teleprompter... Using that wouldn't necessarily mean they had to have the show planned out fully in advance. Whoever was running that thing would surely have the ability that deadheads love to cultivate... the knowing which song is coming next by the tuning and/or opening notes... So, they could then easily put the lyrics up on the prompter.

But the lights! I can't remember where I read this but somewhere there is an explanation about the light guys up on the light rigs atop the satge had to know the songs ahead of time so that they had the right lighting going on. I'm sorry I don't have a link to that discussion but it's floating around out there.

I'm with Rob on the Telepromter. That is not hard to punch up the lyrics once a song has started.

Kind of sucks that they went that way... purely spontaneous was awesome.

9/15/85, for example... I HIGHLY doubt that was planned.
The light show was much simpler then though.

Even the 94-5 light shows weren't all that complex... same stuff really, I don't see why they would need forwarning... it never changed through the show, other than colors being used really, and movement, but that movement was synched to the music... by true deadhead roadies.

Most interesting one around is the 7/2/95 when all hell breaks loose.

If you listen close on Sbds from the late 70s on you can hear them rattle off the set lists or argue them out just before they start to play. Maybe the light guys could listen to that and deal accordingly.
