Well we've had successful LPs for two consecutive Friday nights, albeit not with great turnout. But I think it's worth trying to extend the streak with another late-evening (for the Easterners) showtime this Friday. Around 10:30 Crack time = 7:30 Duck and Dodge time I'll be around. Hopefully a couple drunken sailors will be on board.

How about a nice 1974 gem for this LP?

You have a suggestion? Any show you'd like to hear in particular?

2/23/74? 6/26/74? Those are 2 good ones. Don't know if I will make it through an entire '74 show starting at 10:30 though!

As long as we don't run into the "official release" problem, I'm definitely down for a '74 show.

Yeah I see 6/26 is one..

5/19 and some of the Paris shows are also good!

So how about 09-18-74 "en francais" ??

I've never heard the whole show, but looks fun and gets good reviews....

Oui, oui tres bien! Been along time since I listened, but that is a great show. My tape has written on it, "2nd Gen - Phil's favorite".

What source you got in mind?

Many or all have a rough start in the hiss Dept in 1st set but improves to some real nice sound after a short while.

I have not evaluated the sources, so I appoint you to make that decision! Laughing

I'm going to try and make at least the beginning of the party.

As far as source, IMO, it's pretty much a toss up between the bertha remaster, shnid.021925, here:

and the second, fixed, miller source, shnid.020732, here:

And I'll go against the tide on this one, and say I think the bertha remaster sounds a little more full, especially on the bottom end. I am quite willing to go with whatever source, one of these, or one of the even earlier sources.

Thanks Swami. So I can open a can of worms?

I agree on the Bertha - I was going to go with most recent Miller to keep peace with Koch Laughing Laughing but Bertha sounds better to me. Especially with back-up.

Not period correct but it's French...

Miller is the man, but there are, at times, better sources for particular shows, based mainly on better original source I'm guessing... He tends to get great access to stuff, and does A+ work.

He did 3/9/85, fixing up otherwise messed up sources of the show, and brought this gem to us as intended... upon request!

The fact that we tend to have a mutual respect for one another's opinion of the music and discoveries like in your example allows stuff like that to happen. Without open minds, we would miss some real gems due to the massive volume of material there is out there.

Pretty good show last night but not over-the-top from start to finish or anything. Pretty sloppy participants near the close at least on my part. One computer casualty as well. Special Celebration may be in order next week.

For this show, it was a close call, couldn't go wrong either way. Text says this source was supplied by miller, so I thought it was a "best of both worlds" deal.

I do agree that miller's work is A+.
When in doubt, take the miller isn't a bad approach.
