Ok I get it. Everyone loves 5/8/77. I can even understand why. The second set is out of the world....the morning dew still sends shivers down mynback every time I hear it.
BUT.....come on, your gonna tell me that 5/9/77 isnt a much better a how. The help, slip, franklins opener for one. It's almost like the boys were still feeding off of each other from the night before. The the Cassidy, and brown eyed woman was played flawlessly. The setlist is just SMOKIN IMHO. I have to be honest if I could go back in time (which is one ofthe stupidest sayings ever), but for the sake of this post, if I had an opportunity knowing what I know now, I would have taken a ticket to the 5/9 a how any day of the week. The boys were on fire. I can't really find anything wrong with the show. This is just my opinion, but I'm clearly looking for others. I dont want this to turn into a pissing contest by the way, but I just want to see what other people think.

No chance that 5/9 was better than 5/8. Help/Slip/Frank is played at too slow a tempo, and didn't they do a better Brown-Eyed at Cornell? Anyway I do enjoy the Estimated-OtherOne from 5/9 but otherwise I feel that 5/8 blows it away.

And don't we already have this topic - or one almost identical to it?? I only wish these two shows could be buried away never to be discussed at a GD forum again. Rolling Eyes

So Tizi
I figured I would let you know I'm sill cranking out to 74. I left the official releases even though that DP12 will get every time. I have a ahitload of shows and believe it or not I dont think I have the full shows of either show on DP12. Anyhow just figured I would keep you up tomcats on the what I'm listening to to now. Still 1974, but right now I'm listening to 9/20/74 Palais Des sports Paris, and after this show I'm gonna continue right on with 9/21/74 Palais Des Sports Paris.

I didn't realize you followed what I listen to on a regular basis. Both of my parents were hippies so not only was I brought up on The Beatles, Cream, The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin etc...(believe it or not they are not dead heads) I started playing guitar and bass at a young age. I got really into jazz (another trait I didn't get from my parents), and I think that is why I like 1974 so much. It was so full of energy, but it was crazy, funky, Jazzy, rock n roll, trippy and I could keep going on and on. What is YOUR favorite year and why....maybe I'll start a thread

I have written this in your other theread before reding this one so:

Now seriously I do have still hard time to choose my favourite show mainly because its just cca 2 years that I listen seriously to the GD and most of the things I have learned is here. On the other hand I have discovered DP 12 exactly beacuse it was pointed out in different occasions by colonialsrv ... now I'm not kidding.

I think I am now still in the "discovering" era its like the first 6 months of [CENSORED] with a new girlfriend ... if you know what I mean ....

I guess I need more time ...

This is actually another thread about whether 5-8 or 5-9 is better? Seriously?????

I think H>S>F from 5-9 is one of the best versions, actually. I still like 5-8 better over all. I like it better than 5-7, too. It's one of the best shows of one of the best months of the GD's career, which probably does put it in the top 100 best shows of all time. I would have no idea how to make such a list though.
