Don't you let that Deal go down (before it really went down - i.e. during the modern era of the extended jam at the end..starting in 1981, I believe).

06-30-84 Indianapolis - hard to beat, folks.

Prediction: Dave M. will pick 05-01-81 Hampton.

LOL!!! - well almost...5/1/81 is an excellent, high energy version and has sentimental value, but super extended. BTW Set I of Hampton (new MOTB) is in my car CD player right now Very Happy
6-30-84 is a titan, but I think the most outstanding Deal is 10/17/83 Lake Acid - long [10:27], with a ripping jam and then when they go back into the "Dont you let that deal go down" they extend that too, slow it down then bring it back up. Killer!
Other great extended Deals:
4/22/83 My Brother Esau [5:55] > Deal [8:51]
9/2/83 Looks Like Rain [10:26] > Deal [9:27]
3/7/81 Bird Song [17:27] > Looks Like Rain [7:55] > Deal [9:52#]
4/17/84 - Looks Like Rain [7:38] > Deal [8:58]
4/26/84 Lazy Lightnin' [3:28] > Supplication [6:45] > Deal [9:46]
FYI they started doing the jam in Deal during either the Warfield or RCMH runs in 80.

I know its a cheesy commercial release, but... 7/4/89

The ones listed above are solid (that I have heard). For some reason this is a song that I never seem to remember when it was played really well...
I do prefer the jammed out endings. Another reason to love 1980!

Duderino... my shuffle on the MP3 player this morning picked 10/17/83 Deal, and it was a real treat. Not sure if I had heard it before, but I haven't heard the whole show yet, I know that. I will be doing it soon...

That 10/17/83 Deal is awesome. First time I seen DSO they played that show and I had to listen to GD's rendition the next day, great show.

My favorite Deal is 4/5/91's 'carnival deal.' Terrific Hornsby/Welnick/Garcia interplay. 5/12/91 is another one from '91 that shivers.

10/4/81. Just a great set but the Row Jimmy>Let it Grow> Deal kicks ya in the nuts in a good way. Check out Brent lay down an oh so sweet landing pad on the end jam before going back into the words, for Jerry to just land comfortably. Cool you engines and spread your wings smooooooooooth.

"Don't murder me." Deal is a tune that I never really cared for.

I was there! That is a smoking version, and one of the top first sets of the Mydland era IMO. 12 songs including Jack-A-Roe, Passenger and that ending tricfecta.

Smokin' Deal, fer sure; full-bore gnarly, in fact. But what happened to Garcia in set two??? He sings six songs in set one then sings just two in the "long" set (and gives the encore to Bob). Garcia seems plenty game, what with the lengthy jam before drums and the tasty jamming after Truckin', but he bails on the telegraphed UJB (during the pre-drums jam) and seems content to just play guitar in a relatively short second set.

Anybody know the scoop?

Yeah its pretty weird - first set is longer than the 2nd. Maybe it was a curfew thing Everyone was hoping for a Terrapin as U of MD are the Terrapins. banners everywhere saying "Terrapin Station" of course they ignored that. The post Saint jam is nice but too bad they didnt go into UJB or Terrapin. That would have been sweet. Jerry delivers on the 2 songs he sings - Iko and Peter and maintains his shreddage.

Wow, it took my forever to find this thread...
6/22/83 is a fucking sicko version indeed!
It goes on like the energizer bunny... there are some somewhat lame points, but the majority of it fucking rocks...
Great AUD (there is no SBD of the entire June 83) is here:

Yeah, that is a ripper. Short show but pretty good. Apparently the "deal" with the truncated 1st set was because it was dusk and City Island, as the name implies, is a wooded island in the middle of the Susquehanna River. There were mosquitoes galore and the promoters were trying to keep them down with bug spray, which apparently kept wafting over to the stage. This was the night after the Merriwether run and we were like WTF? 6 songs??? Ever listen to Set II -hot China>Rider, Playin and Spanish Jam.

10-16-89 is one of the finest Deals, and also 3-20-81 is a top-notcher.
