I'm eying up the 11/6 Albany, 11/7 Philly, 11/16 Princeton,NJ(If the law allows me to drive in that state...probably not and i'm off that night Mad) ,11/24 Syracuse and 11/25 Jim Thorpe (Penn's Peak is the best place to see a show!)....I have no problem traveling 1-3 hours to see them play, it's always worth it.

Agreed on the small venues... I like my live music loud and up close.
It's also nice not having to buy tickets in advance.

FYI - Not that it's a bad thing, but Jeff Mattson from Donna Jean & Tricksters will be playing lead guitar that night. JK must be rehearsing with Further.

Hey Goph,
I'm glad I looked at this thread, I didn't realize they added dates in our neck of the woods. If you want a touring buddy I am down for 11/6 albany, 11/16 princeton
11/25 penns peak & 11/27 NYC. I have enough .25 footballs to put ya in a comma for months and lots of canna-caramels Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Let me know if you want to hook up to travel or just at least meet and hang out for the shows. If anyone else in our area is interested it would be great to caravan like the old days!

Your's truly has an apartment 15 minutes from the State Theater in Ithaca, if anyone's down for the 11/18 show. You might have to share the couch with my dog, but other than that it's all good! The more the merrier.

man I would love to come up to the promised land! If no one knows that
the finger lakes region is Cali without the ocean and other problems they are missing out! It is a five hr. ride for me and I work unfortunately the next day after that show. I spend a couple weeks each year either on Keuka lake or Canandaigua
every year and if life takes me in the direction I want it to I will live in Canandaigua
in the next year or so. Thanks for the invite to the prettiest place on earth. Invite is of course extended back at ya if you want to come down jersey way.

It takes you 5 hours from NW NJ?? Dude, how slow do you drive? Laughing
It only takes 5.5 hours from Baltimore. Camped at Taughannock State Park this summer on Cayuga for a week. I love Ithaca and the finger lakes!!!!

328 miles volvo loaded with kids, dog and significant other, pop-up behind us with 16' aluminum boat on top of pop-up with 3 stops for pee and food yeah it's every bit of 5 hrs. I guess I'm not thinking about solo run just me and
a hella load of caramels would only be about 3.5hrs. I can usually make it to the tug hill area in winter for snowmobile racing in 3.5 to 4 hrs with trailer behind also about same distance from me.

Fair enough! I only have Honda CRV loaded with camping gear, food booze and a wife......Also you probably do not have a direct shot up 81 like I do. I'm going back next summer or in the winter to xc ski. You cant beat a place where you can hike or do some water activity in the morning, then booze up along the wine trails in the afternoon!!!!

I caught them in Albany back on 11/6....probably the weakest show of the 12-13 times i've seen them play, they were flat and sounded uninspired(first show in a month) and the setlist was lame imo....Albany was a pleasant surprise though, nice little city! I was tempted to check out Renesysler Polytechnic University(Just a few miles outside) due to 5/7/78 being a favorite show of mine

Let The Good Times Roll> Feel Like a Stranger, Evangeline, Easy To Love You, Lazy Lightning> Supplication, Lazy River Road, Mama Tried> Mexicali Blues, The Stranger, Terrapin Station
Set #2:
Greatest Story, Foolish Heart> The Other One> Bird Song> Alligator> Drums> Space> Alligator> The Other One> Comes a Time> Good Lovin
Encore:
The Weight**> Touch of Grey

Have plans on attending 11/18 Ithaca(w/ Jeff Mattson...I think he'll do just fine) 11/24 Syracuse and 11/25 Jim Thorpe

I'll be at the Ithaca show Gopher, looking forward to it also, maybe they'll be more energetic with a couple shows under their belt.

Original setlists are usually lame IMO. I only saw one that was good. They are much better when they stick to actual shows, especially 70's.
Let me know how Mattson sounds. I was going to see the 12/30 show in Baltimore but am wavering because John K will not be there.

I sense tension between the band...there is talks that this could be the final tour w/ John K...I wonder if Mattson will have access to the proper gear to perform GD sets? I will be pissed if they play another lame original setlist(of the 4 original setlists i've seen, only one was fun)

I've never seen em, but what's so lame about the original setlists? They still play GD songs, right?

As a GD nerd I like to hear them perform a show, they replicate the sound of that era pretty well and it's fun guessing the year or specific show.
And in my experience, original setlists have majorly lacked x-factor....they also tend to play a lot of rare songs, sure they are rare, but usually not fun for me. I.E The Stranger and Evangeline Neutral

That's pretty much how I feel. They will start off really hot, then play Built to Last or Liberty or The Stranger, and it brings the energy level down. If you are going to play an original setlist, play the good stuff!! I saw them do original setlists at the end of a tour and then once at the beginning of a tour, and it seemed like they used it as an excuse to practice or just screw off.

When MSG first started to have concerts in the late 60s it had a rotating stage and it was terrible. when the stage turned away from you--you could barely hear them until it came 'round again. I saw two shows with this and finally the third show I went to they built the stage at one end and kept making improvements over the years.

ya it's a tent and the stage rotates one way a few times, then goes back the other way almost like it winds up and then "unwinds"...the speakers are in the round, they dont rotate

so, what does the future hold for DSO? John K was in IMO a big, big reason as to why DSO was fun and pretty spot on in recreating the sounds. Clearly Phil and Bob think he's worthy of playing with Furthur, so he is now. Does this mean Furthur will be announcing more shows?? If the Dead do a tour again, will John be the lead guitarist??

Suddenly i'm more excited to see Jeff Mattson than John K...
Hopefully I am proven wrong, but I expect him to coast through the motions to wrap it up.

I think i'm going to opt out of the 11/24 Syracuse show and instead go see Further in NYC. Further tour 2010 is going to be amazing, and maybe the end of something special.

No dates have been announced and probably won't be for awhile...but you KNOW they are coming. I predict at least 40 shows in 2010...

140 dollars for a balcony ticket on 12/8 in NYC....
Venue only holds 2,500 people, and currently listening to the second set from 9/18/09 now makes this decision pretty easy!
Could be only chance for a small venue experience.
Praying they don't plan on an acoustic set/show Laughing

JEEZ!
Man, that's expensive as hell. I, for one, would never pay that much to see them.
I saw Phil & Friends in NYC, small venue, for $55, and thought that was too much.

I agree with you. He was a HUGE part. That is too bad.
I always said he was the man who should have been with the Dead all along, so that is kind of a good thing.

It's a shot load of money and definitely overpriced, way I see it is my days are numbered where I can afford to throw down that kind of cash for a show and to me this is the ultimate all star band.

I wonder if DSO will stick with Mattson or hold auditions?
If they do hold auditions than maybe JK leaving is a blessing in disguise, he will be missed, but who knows whose out there?

I would say John K is more smooth and polished, but Jeff M is meaner and plays a lot more like Jerry.

I can't speak to the DSO shows, but there was a "scene" of sorts at The Dead show I saw in DC last year -- sketch-o-rama.... Bring a shiv.

I will officially call this band FJGB (Fake Jerry Band). The setlist was pretty good and over all the music was well executed and a decent Phish cover thrown in for good measure. Perhaps this can mutate into an original music band for everyone's fake Jerry. I would dig this so we can hear the real John.

Randomly drove by Freebird Live in Jacksonville Beach last night and noticed that DSO is scheduled Feb 9th (next Wednesday). Since it is less than a 10 minute drive from where I live I will be in attendance, and will do a little review of the show.

2/9/73 (Roscoe Maples) would be too obvious a choice wouldn't it??[/u]

Nope - $25 ticket was too rich for my blood. I would have paid $12, maybe $15 - but not $25.
