A big thanks to all those who served their country! Words aren't enough but you are all appreciated.

I made it a point yesterday to point out to some people...

People who never left a secure perimeter, or at least manned it themselves, did not "fight" in a combat zone, they "served" there.
It's a pretty important distinction.

It entered my head when I heard some Air Force guy who rode a desk on an airfield talking about how he "fought" in Afghanistan...
Nope, he served...

Anyhow, no shame in serving, of course!!!

I respect all human beings who were involved in any war and even more to the families who had suffered lossess. Let's say it for any State involved in conflicts the soliders are pretty much a statistic. The loss of a father, son or a brother is a scar you hold deep and lasts forever.

I have gone through the war in the former Jugoslavia ... never been in combat fortunately, but I can tell you that war ha splitted families forever ...

I was in the Croatian Army and I say shamelessly that being a drafted and busted guy I did all I could to avoid, escape, disappear etccccc

I don't want to be an ass here... I know that the Veterans Day is a very dear American hollyday and I don't want to offend.

Its just that a lots of thinggs happened over here during the 90s so I am very pessimistic when I think over wars, guns, politicians ...... I hope you don't get mad for my words and I hope it makes some sense .....

It does make sense... mainly because your war, and the many many many before it in that reason, were based on some things that don't matter in the long run... to the common man at least.
It was basically civil war as well, which is always a tragedy...

Our big war, WW2, was obviously a huge necessary war (we won't mention which side Croatia fought with) because we were confronting a huge evil... as we do today, though in a much less organized format...
The majority of the time, when the USA fights wars, we do it to liberate something... You can argue that other motives are involved (as they are), but in the end, we don't plan on keeping Iraq or Afghanistan (or Germany, etc)... but we will protect our national interests...

We also had to fight for our very existence as a nation, and that started the somewhat militaristic tradition in the USA, though Veterans Day didn't become official until after WW1, which was a HUGE catastrophy of questionable motives (incidentally, started in the Yugoslav region).

So, it is very different, our Veterans Day, versus those of most nations.

Agree ... that's why I am a US fan!
