I hate hate hate it. I just don't get it, it sounds dumb and he overused the [CENSORED] out of it in 1993.

I don't understand the phrase... "it sounds dumb"

Anyhow, I like it, one of the reasons I love 93 so much. It certainly sounds... crisp.

Jerry's "Lightning Bolt" guitar had a built-in acoustic pick-up. You can hear it on many songs in that period. It has a kind of flat, clear tone. It worked well on some songs -- and in combination with other MIDI effects -- but sounded crappy on others.

Yes Yes ... I do like that so when I am in the mood I go and listen to those shows! So, I don't mind that sound at all!!!

I listen often to that "He's Gone Jam" from a 1993 show Koch recomended where you can hear that crystal sound I do like ... the jam is kinda carrabean music (to me it seems like the "Ma - til - da" instrumental song).

True, it doesn't work on some songs as well, but it works on some songs very well!
I like it in the HSF from 8/22/93, for example. That show was a step into a new level of acoustic patch... by Dec 93, he was really using it heavily.

...that acoustic patch sounds AWESOME on the Franklin's from 12/17/93...especially in the instrumental after the first chorus, immediately following Vince's little keyboard solo...one of my favorite Jerry turns EVER...

Not true bzfgt. I'm not really a '93 fan at all, acoustic patchor otherwise. Of the 80 gigabites of GD music on my iPod, there's not one show from '93. I do have a couple JGB shows from '93 however (11/12/93, with David Murray on sax, being a standout).

Wow... let's not get all crazy and bashing 93 now!

For doubters of 93... try 9/22/93 (for some sax by David Murray of course)...
9/13/93
3/10/93
8/21-22/93...

And, TS from 6/23/93...

Also... Autzen run (8/21-22/93) was the beginning of the more [CENSORED] acoustic patch... after that it gets more and more crisp, peaking in Spring 94...

as i have opined here before, the 6/23/93 Terrapin Station (and the Jam>Drums>Space>Dark Star>The Wheel that follows) is some of the absolute best Grateful Dead music of the 90's...some of those Spring and Summer '93 shows rank very high in my rotation...and i love all eras and years...
