ever since way back when, long before the internet or the archive when all we had was B&P trading, a couple of goals I had set for myself was to eventually get a copy of every show I attended as well as a show from every year that the band performed as part of my collection. Thanks to the archive and bit torrent etc., I am pretty close to having or knowing where to get most of the shows i attended.
Now I'm focusing on the yearly aspect of my goal. This is where I need help from you all. I don't frequent the Vince era all that much. I need some reccomendations for this era, especially 93-95. Help me seperate the wheat from the chaff so to speak....what are some of the gems from this era????

There seems to be more interest in this era among the members of this board than there is on some of the other boards that I frequent, so this seemed like the place to ask!!

Thanks in advance and I appreciate any input you all can provide!!

93 has a bunch of good shows... here are some starters in order of my preference
9/13/93 is a great show
6/23/93 (best Terrapin Station ever)
9/22/93 (w/ sax)
9/17/93
6/11/93
12/12/93

94 not so much, but here are some...
3/21/94 (awesome He's Gone Jam)
10/1/94
10/17/94

95 is yet weaker still, but... 3/23/95 (with Bruce) is a must have from this year. I also enjoy 2/21/95 (X-factor in some points here).

1991 - cant go wrong with the summer tour - probably the highlight of the year. Buckeye, Deer Creek, RFK, Gaints Stadium, Chi-town, Sandstone are all excellent shows. Also the Cap Centre run and 4/1/91 are nice shows for the Spring.
Fall - 9/10, 9/13, 9/26 and 10/31 are all great shows.

I was recently listening to 12/16/92. There is a reason this is a Dicks Picks. excellent show (although go for an AUD source)
6/25/92 Soldier Field is pretty hot, with Steve Miller as a guest.

For 1994 I would add 10/5/94 Philly. Really good IMO. Also 10/1/94 is maybe the last epic show.

Welcome finster!

Yes, this forum is Vince-friendly. Good recommendations above from Koch and Duder...

I'm probably not the authority that those guys are. I know much less about 94-95, as I don't visit those years much. I saw a lot of shows from 90-95, though, and I tend to fixate on certain ones -- usually shows that I saw.

You've heard about the biggies I'm sure (Boston and NY shows, 4/1/91, 6/14/91, 6/17/91) so here are some relatively under-the-radar shows from 90-91...

1990-09-08 - Richfield - Second show for Vinnie and a real nice one. Outstanding Eyes> Estimated> Terrapin sequence.

1991-03-20 - Cap Center - Excellent first set and a beautiful Eyes> Foolish> Estimated> He's Gone to open the second.

1991-03-21 - Short but solid first set (18-minute Bird Song) and an amazing Victim> Scarlet> Fire> Stir it up jam

1991-03-27 - Nassau - Second-ever Reuben and a great Scarlet> Fire

1991-06-09 - Buckeye Lake - Terrific first set sequence of Ramble on Rose, Masterpiece, Reuben, Let it Grow. Second set doesn't disappoint either. Playin> He's Gone and Other One> Wharf are real nice.

1991-06-20 - Pine Knob - I'm going to catch hell for recommending this one, but the second set is a lot of fun -- a Throwin Stones sandwich. Throwin> Iko gives me chills.

1991-06-22 - Soldier Field - One of the best Shakedowns of the 90s. Great, spacey second set.

1991-08-16 - This is not an unheralded show, but you cannot deny the first set Dark Star. Scarlet> Victim> Fire is hot.

1991-09-04 - Richfield - Ten-song first set, all winners. Best Scarlet> Fire I ever saw. China Doll. This show rocks!

As for 92-93, I'd throw in a couple more...

1992-06-08 - Richfield - Great show. Rare MLB jam out of Corrina and a beautiful Dark Star out of space. SMR from this show is also highly-touted.

1993-06-09 - I love this show. Fantastic versions of Bertha, Terrapin and Wharf.

Well...... I started with the first show on koch's list.
Man, I must be gettin' old...the ole brain box just don't function too well anymore! Shocked

Lo and behold I realize that not only was I at this show, I did a review of it on archive 3 years ago. DOH!!! Mea Culpa

I gave it an average review at the time...So far I am thru the first set this time around, and in retrospect it is a little better than I first thought. While I don't think it is a GREAT show, there is some good playing by the boys and this is one case where the MIDI is used to good effect. As I noted in my review, the MIDI is giving Jerry's guitar a very distinct acoustic sound thruout the first set.

I most certainly will be looking to D/L this one as it covers both my stated criteria of being a good later day show and also being one that I was at!!!

Here is my original review from the archive....

Subject: Acoustic?
Maybe it's just me, but it sounds like Jerry is playing acoustic thru most of the show. I was at this show, so I know that he isn't.I'm not sure how he achieved this affect. This is the first I've listened to this one since actually being at the show, and I know it has been over 12 years, but I don't remember noticing this while being there. Any way, I think it adds a different and interesting twist to an otherwise mediocre show. Also, at the time, this was the first show I had seen in a while, so the IFTL encore was actually pretty cool for me at the time.

3/23/95 dude, for the last time!

I just listened to the 1/2 Step and snippets of a few other tunes - it does sound particularly "zesty" for 95. I'm not in the mood for later day Dead but will put this on my list. I'm doing a "this day in history" 3/27/86 Cumby.

Man, that is actually one of two shows I might host at the listening party tonight...
3/26/87 or 5/13/83

Not only does this sound zesty, it has my 2 favorite Jerry songs: So many roads and Days Between. I agree with Koch that this is a keeper.

From the master: (interview with Charlie Miller recently)

"...I think my new Haven ‘83 recording is probably one of the best recordings that I have made of the Grateful Dead.  We also started doing 4 mic mixes at the Dead shows in 1990.  There’s a few like Cal expo in ‘90 and Shoreline ‘92 that are just absolutely phenomenal.  You know, it just feels like you are there..."

The other night at the listening party Thugmusk picked this for a highlight, the post drums second set, and I was really impressed, especially for a 90s show. Exceeded my expectations.
Spanish Jam-> Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad-> Throwing Stones-> Not Fade Away, E: Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds

3/21/94 (awesome He's Gone Jam)

The jam is an instrumental "Ma-til-da, Ma-til-da", which Jerry sung in 95, nice jam I listened today for the first time that show. Jerry guitar has a weird metallic/acoustic sound.

Finally someone else appreciates this Gone Jam! Thank you Tizi!
That tone really started at Autzen in 93, around 8/22 is got more pronounced... it continued to get more prevalent as the year went on, and by December is was really pronounced.

Check out 12/13/93 for an example.

In Spring 94 is continued... I think when he switchted guitars he even kept the same tone, but I am not 100% on that tidbit.
