The article in the magazine was really good too actually, a Smithsonian style piece on the rock festival. No tapes in the vault of this one, and the organizer, a free thinking biker type, lost his personal reels according to the article. Sad because it sounds like there was a decent sound system on hand.
When organizing the festival, they were trying to get Jefferson Airplane, but they wanted too much. Jerry Garcia committed to it for a third of the Dead's usual fee, 9500 dollars, he apparently knew the organizer too.
The owner of the farm actually wrote to the organizer when she had heard about it, a 79 year old grandmother who must have liked hippies, so they rented her place for $5000.
The weather was nice, sounded like an amazing show. The GD reportedly played for a few hours instead of the 50 minute set in the contract (talk of contracts and the organizer's attorneys in this piece brought to mind Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.)
Glad you guys dug those pictures
