Grateful Dead
November 13 1972
Soldier's and Sailor's Memorial Hall
Kansas City, Kansas

A Dick Latvala DAT shared for Dead Air's 500th radio show, KXCI 91.3 FM Tucson.

This source and many more to come provided graciously by Jim Blackwood, former Dead Air co-host. We believe it is Dick's copy of Owsleys AUD. We know more of the AUD exists , but this is what Dick chose to share with KXCI. The song list is Dick's and the tracking reflects this.

a **GEMS** Production

This is for Kevin Tobin

Gotta give it up for this little nugget of pure love….A GEMS remaster of Bear’s Aud. Just popped up yesterday on LL. Unbelievable recording for the time, absolutely phenominal....

First, this is indeed a great segment everyone should hear. I wonder if the new source sounds better than the complete version that's been on the Archive?
(The complete Bear version that is, which starts in the middle of Playin'....there's also another AUD which is inferior but more complete.)

Second, what's this post doing in the Pigpen section?

Thanks for the heads up, skobud! Very Happy
It's a decent upgrade with less hiss and apparently one less cassette in the lineage, assuming it's really Bear's master > Dick's dat. However, there's a sizable cut (like 90 seconds) in Bear's tape right before the verse, which is patched with the other aud in the composite version of the whole show:

Argh. The new GEMS version doesn't patch the cut, which is too bad. So I say stick with 10089 and deal with the hiss.

I'll second nickJ's comment. The big cut, plus the fact that there's just slightly less hiss than the older source, makes this 'upgrade' dispensible. (At least until it's patched.)

From the Hanno notes:
Dark Star 11:15 through 12:55 missing on #1 [Bear's tape]; patched from #2 [alternate AUD]

(I'll also note that the Hanno file is generally preferable to the Cotsman I linked due to being more complete....it was just that for many years, the Hanno sound-files were unavailable on the Archive & only came back up recently.)
