Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce!!!!

Fun question to wrestle with, right? What was Bruce's best show as member of the band? I am going to limit the possible answers to shows during which Bruce was an official member of the band, not including special appearances before and after.

I submit for your consideration:

11-01-90 London
06-17-91 Giants
06-22-91 Soldier
06-24-91 Sandstone
08-16-91 Shoreline

Obviously there's MSG 1990 and 1991, some great stuff from December 1990, March 1991, and a really good Summer 1991 overall. In my opinion the Bruce effect declined rapidly starting in Fall 1991, leading up to his departure from the band after the Spring 1992 tour.

If I had to choose one, I would pick the top selection 11-01-90 largely due to Bruce's contribution to the mammoth segment Playin-DarkStar-Drumz-Space-DarkStar-PlayinReprise. However more than a couple of those Summer 1991 shows certainly can contend for best Bruce.

Have at it!

well, 6/17/91 comes first to my mind...... all those Dark Star teases. however, I'm still on the fence as to whether or not he was merely an annoyance to the band during that show. the video gave me that impression.
.....still a great show, though

Of those choices, I would say 6/24/91... but I think he did better on several shows, including the next night, 6/25/91.

However, the omission of MSG 1990 is unacceptable... 12/12/90 also? Where'd you get that list of choices, a cracker jack box?
I mean, you say there are really good one from this period and that, and then you completely ignore those dates and have your list (of shows which I know aren't really your favorites anyhow). I don't get it.

I've never listened to 11/1 but all the rest of those are great Bruce shows.
If I had to pick one I guess it would be 6/17 because he is all over the place.
Koch is right though, MSG 90 (esp 19th and 20th) should be considered. His solo in Rider is sick and he steers the jam after LIG in cool directions.
I also dig 9/26/91 Boston.

Good call on 6/22/91, Swami. An under-appreciated show and a great one for Bruce fans. Spectacular Shakedown.

Well man, my clear favorite of that bunch is 6/14/91. But if your going to ask me to pick one for da Bruce, i'm thinking 6/24/91, what he does during Althea is divine.

8-16-91 for me. Bruce leads the entire first set; leads them right into the first, and only, first set Darkstar I ever saw.

Not to mention the only Scarlet>Victim>Fire EVER, to open set 2...

8/16/91 features some acoustic sounding guitar during Jack Straw...is that a sound issue or is is supposed to sound like that?

If I remember correctly, it was Phil's bass; not plugged in or hooked up correctly or something. Its not just the recording, it rang throughout the entire amphitheater that way. Confused

Bumpin up this thread because I put on 3-20-92 Copps Coliseum. Really good Hornsby throughout. Possibly the best show of the tour.

I would probably cast my vote for 8-16-91 at this juncture.

I think that 8/16/91 is an acquired taste... seems that not many of of has acquired it.
I know boxorain (RIP) was a fan.

I like the short, sweet first set Dark Star.

As for best Bruce, I haven't been listening to this era much recently.
But recently I hit 12/12/90... that's a pretty solid show.

Listening to Dick's Picks 17 (9/25/91) Solid throughout. Wonderful Terrapin!

Check out the night before it too! I think it's a better performance.
