Comments: sbd> reel> ?> dats> wave> shn; dat> wav> shn by popi n. feeldz from Michael Grossman DAT; missing Mexican Hat Dance, Mama Tried, Mexicali. There are many pauses which are not really cuts, rather just a second of dead air that resumes right back into the flow of things. Similarly their are a few cuts. This is the only SBD of this show at the Archive.

Best Matrix: (none available at the Internet Archive at this time)

Comments: aud > low gen cass > Wavelab > wav > flac; This source is slightly muffled, while the crowd is not a huge deterrent. The start of Mama Tried is clipped due to a tape flip, Bertha has a very small cut at 1:37, tape flip near end of Drums, US Blues had a right channel dropout between 0:21- 0:43 and several smaller ones shortly after. I copied the left channel in, crossfades put in where the tape had been paused and on tape flips, the bottom end was very heavy, iZotope Ozone and 4Front Sand Brush used to eq, light noise reduction has been applied, seamless join between discs 2 and 3. This is the only AUD of this show at the Archive. This is the best source for this show.

Other 10/2/81 at the Archive as of Sep. 22, 2008: None.

Comments: SBD>?>C>C>WAV>SHN. Seeded to etree by jim@juddcreek. Jerry is VERY low in the mix until Tennessee Jed. Vocals seem to be a bit high in the mix in general. This is the only SBD of this show at the Archive. Your preference picks best source for this show. Get this version if you can handle the beginning 25% of the show with Jerry's guitar almost completely inaudible. The show itself has a good sound quality.

Comments: Source: Audience Recording: Sennheiser MD441 > Sony TCD 5M > Maxell MX C90 tape (Dolby B) 15-20 m in front of stage
Lineage: MC via Nakamichi DR-1 > HD > remaster (see notes) > CD by Bernd Weiskircher; Taped by: Bernd Weiskircher; Transferred by: Matt Vernon, Nigel Mouncey. Warbly at times, especially during Shakedown Street. Jerry can be heard from the beginning. Highs are somewhat distorted. This is the only AUD of this show at the Archive. Your preference picks best source for this show. Get this version if you want the entire show with Jerry's guitar featured.

Comments: Source: AUD, unknown mics: CM > 1C > DAT. Lineage: DAT > Tascam DA-20mkII > M Audio Delta Audiophile 2496 > Sound Forge 7.0 (build 214) (record only) > CDWav 1.93 > FLAC Frontend (no DAE, 48kHz). This is the best source of this show at the Archive. Really, as long as you don't go with source 7917, there is very little difference between the sources.

Comments: This is almost identical to the best source, the other SBD, the difference is one cassette generation, and this one ends up more muddled. It does include the encore, which the other does not, make sure you get it.

. Jerry's guitar super low in mix through Alabama, pretty much sorted out by Greatest Story. First few notes of Peggy-O cut; First couple notes of CR&S cut; Splice near end of Lost Sailor (apparently tape flip in an earlier gen); Crackly noise for a second or two at the beginning of Black Peter (sounds like equipment problem); Cool Edit Pro used for tracking and to apply noise reduction to reduce considerable cassette hiss. This is the BEST Source of this show at the Archive.

Comments: ratio ~ Phi (the Golden Ratio) - 1.618/1 or 62%/38%. SBD: (shnid=1217) via Dan Vinson. AUD: (shnid=80060) via Michel The belgian Deadhead. This is the BEST Source of this show at the Archive. Really, the best AUD & SBD are great also. This combines them, and handles patches a bit more easily, so I gave it the nod.
