As suggested by chinarider, I thought I might give the voters a voice...
Here are the options (of course, I would also be open to others).
One thing you must keep in mind is the way the writing will appear on the backdrop.

OPTION 1

OPTION 5 (this is the current background)

If you have something you think would be cool for the background, let me know via PM.

Perhaps the oroboros that tknight mentioned would be a cool addition somewhere.

This one is an improvement over the last one. IMO its a little hard to tell which would be best without having some text, etc to contrast it. The blueish background might be decent too. Democracy in action!

Arr!

Good thing I read Dude's post before I typed; I agree, lets see some samples with text on them.

Very Happy

Can't vote until I see em.

I have re-upped the possibles with text on them... I was thinking about that earlier...
That's the best I could do... the font is a bit larger than it would be normally, but you get the gist of it...

Is there a way to have the background image in a "fixed" position so it doesn't scroll with the text?

Unfortunately, no. I also can't make it one big one rather than tiles...
I tried just making the original image as big as I could get it... but the host (photobucket) shrinks it to its certain size.

SO, here is how it'll go...
Whichever one is leading, that is the one that will be the background.
If one overtakes the current leader, I will switch to that.

If your vote pushes us into a new background, let me know, and I will change it.

Also, if you have suggestion for other possible backgrounds, let me know via PM. Keep in mind, it has to be light, or fade-capable... otherwise you will not be able to see the writing.

Chinarider had a good one that would have been great had the "comicbook" theme worked out. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work completely, so this is where we stand... not that this is bad.

OK, I have added the option for plain old regular background to the poll...
It is option 6 - now amended to indicate that that would mean a return to the normal, previous background.

It has come to my attention that the current background (which means ANY background) is causing the pages to load much slower for people... and JJ said it hurt his eyes.

Wow...go away for a few days and all kinds of goodies going on in here. I like the way it looks, but I'll read thru a few days of posts and see how my eyes do. Solid effort Koch!

Welcome back Lucasmcain. I hope Florida treated you well. I trust you had good weather on the other coast as we did on the west side.

I had a blast thanks! The weather was great for the begining of the weekend but the race had to be cut short because of rain. I had such a blast it didn't matter. The similarities between the NASCAR world and the DEADHEAD world are too numerous to post, but all heads should check a race out.

Oh and I was introduced to something called a vaporizer Laughing

Give it a shot... cause... I don't see it.

I see we are at a tie for the background!

How would it look if the type on the front page was black instead of blue? I think that would help...

I'm finding the pages very difficult to read.
The posts don't have clear enough separation for me to see where they start and finish.

Anyhow, we are staying with the marble for now...
If you don't like the marble background, you can always block its image with Firefox and Add Block Plus...

Just right click on it, and select block image.
