Sign In Stranger - Steely Dan vine

OK boys and girls, I thought I would give a little something back to the kind people of this nice little corner of the inter-web-net thing and start off a Steely Dan vine Very Happy

Alright, so it's only four Steely Dan shows, but they are all soundboards and in glorious lossless (FLAC). You never know, some kind person may add more.

The shows are:

    12th August 2006 - Verizon Wireless Amphitheater

11th August 2003 - Pine Knob Music Theatre, Detroit

    20th May 1974 - Rainbow Theatre, London (I was there ! )

    30th April 1974 - Ellis Auditorium, Memphis

In addition, to fill the DVD, I have also thrown in:

Toots and the Maytalls - 16th June 2006 Chiasso

    Ry Cooder - 5th August 5 1984 Cotati Cabaret

Van Morrison - 26th April 1970 Fillmore West

Plus a little surprise
Surprised

Did you already burn the disc?
Also, have you been to hungercity.com (yet another torrent site). I think I torrented some Steely Dan video DVDs there... it was either there or Tradersden.org I think.

I thought we would have more Steely fans...

Hi Morticia! That was really nice of you to offer up some music to share. I thought about signing up but didn't because I am afraid that it would take me forever to send it on. I just started grad school and while this forum is a welcome distraction at times, I have trouble getting things done like going to the post office.

These are shows in FLAC files that you can just put on your hard drive, no? Or do you mean they are audio cds converted from lossless? Either way, it would be pretty simple to get these going. Otherwise let me know. I have been meaning to sign up for this one, I do remember mentioning it at some point. I would be interested in signing up.

Yes, it is in FLAC, so it would be a simple drag and drop on the computer...

OK sugarmag, two options for you then: we either put your name at the end of the vine list or PM me your addy and I'll bomb you with a separate disc Cool

Yes, absolutely. Or even better just copy the DVD, mail it on and sort out the FLAC files at your leisure. As I said there is TLH on the DVD which you can use to decode the FLAC files into WAVS.

If you like, I am quite willing to post a FLAC and SHN primer for people who aren't sure how to deal with these files. Do you think that would be useful for some people ?

I think so, anything that helps can help.

I think knowing that they can simply drag and drop the FLAC and then do what they want with it later at their own pace is good...
Drag & drop the files, send the DVD on...

I have some DVD shows that I am going to include... video.
One is also with Michael McDonald sitting in... that's rather doobieous of him.

He was a regular touring with the Dan in the seventies and eighties (he sang backing vocals and played Fender Rhodes while Fagen played acoustic piano).

He appeared on some albums also, notably 'Royal Scam' and 'Aja'.

Dogstar, you can easily convert it to MP3...
When you get it, we can talk it out over the chatbox if you need help.

Morticia is including the software needed on the disc, it is really simple.

OK: Mr. K the DVD is on it's way to you. I think it usually takes about a week for packages of that sort to get to the U.S. from the UK.

cheesebeer, if you haven't done so already, you need to send your snail mail address to Kochman.

dogstar, you need to send your snail mail address to cheesebeer.

Enjoy !

Perhaps someone can send on the Video disc to Morticia if she wants it?
Who is last in the line? DS?

If you send one disc in a small padded envelop, it is very cheap.

I have now got a second installment for this vine Exclamation
I did a trade and got in return a miscellaneous collection of lossless live bootleg tracks (not complete shows) , some lossless studio out-takes and a complete live show in mp3.

They are:

    FLAC:

    Don Kirchner's Rock Concert 1974
March 9, 1974, Sopwith Camel, Glendale, CA, or unknown venue, San Diego, CA
March 10, 1974, University of California, Irvine, Irvine, CA
March 2, 1974, Record Plant, Los Angeles, CA (KMET-Live)

    "Katy Lied" Rough Mixes 1975

    MP3:

    Saratoga NY '93

Exclamation Kochman - Let me know if this is the same stuff that you added.
If not, I will send the disc off to you so that you can pass it down the vine.

I have the video here. I can send it off to you Morticia if you want it. Thanks for all these vines. I have found the 71 vine rather interesting as it was a year that I haven't really listened to much of before.

Wow ! that really makes me feel good that you have expanded your GD outlook a little Cool
1971 had a lot of energy.

Hang on to the video for now. I will take you up on the offer in a while.
By the sounds of it, Kochman didn't add the Steely Dan stuff I have just acquired.

I will post it off next week. Mr. K, please pass it down the vine. Just in case your memory is not what it used to be, here is the vine:

1) Kochman
2) cheesebeer

Update ...

DVD number two is on its way across the pond to Mr. K

There are some other bits and bobs on there to fill up the disc.
1.2 GB of it is Steely Dan though.

I would say 30% of what I have I haven't listened to. Most of it is from one of my best friends. He listens is to Bright Eyes what I am to the Dead. I dig Conor Oberst solo sometime but I would prefer to listen to the real thing which is Dylan.

No worries, I will grab it tomorrow.
Chesse, when I send it on, I will include a copy of disc 2 from 7/7/89 that I screwed up in the Brent DVD vine.

Weather Report as in Jaco on bass? I have a herbie Hancock show with Jaco on bass. Such an excellent bassist, Birdland is an all time favorite.

Yes, that band. However, one show has Jaco on bass and the other has Alphonso Johnson.

I agree with you completely about Jaco. And 'Birdland' too.
Of course, 'Cucumber Slumber' is a Weather Report tune which was done by JGB (and very well too). It is a testament to John Khan's bass playing that he could turn out a decent treatment of that classic Jaco bassline.
