Some greats...

I love most of the earliest versions, with the strong cymbal intro, but I am weak on the dates...

5/8/77 (maybe the best)
9/18/87
7/15/88
7/31/88

List 'em here, because that is what we are supposed to Dew

Fucking love this song, after I heard 8/1/73 for the first time a few years ago I got crazy with Dew and had to hear as many as possible!(at least from '73-'78) I don't really care for the Dews that segue into something, because well, they dont do what a Dew is supposed to do.

Upper Tier:
2/28/73
3/26/73
8/1/73 Exclamation
2/24/74
6/18/74
9/10/74 Exclamation
12/31/76
2/27/77
4/27/77 Exclamation
5/8/77 Exclamation
6/7/77
4/15/78
6/18/83
5/11/91 for a MIDI snack Smile

I need to listen to some more from the 80's, the ones that I did like I can't recall atm.

Some great shows there WITHOUT BRUCE from 3/23-3/28...3/27/91 is a great one.

I will have to check that out, G - or keep in mind for a forum highlight?

It does on 4/27/77 - this bugger rivals 5/8/77 in X factorness.
Just finished it up. Damn!!! Shocked

9/12/87 Just a ridiculous mid solo by Garcia and a very nice ending. Not too short and not over the top at the end. In my opinion it is better than 9/17.

^ I imagine that one would be pretty intense, considering it is May 1980...does and AUD of that show circulate?

I just listened to 3/17/94....very legit!

I checked out the LAST Dew tonight. It has a slow start. Vinny adds some nice keyboard action, perhaps a bit early. I like the drummers work on this as well. I haven't listened to many 90's Dew to hear the drummers change it up slightly. The climax in this Dew is high energy and very nice. The crowd in the background just help the energy of the 95 AUD. Overall the rest of the show was a bust. Technical problems throughout didn't help.

I think 6/18/74 just surpassed 12/31/72 in my mind as the best evah.....That delicate interplay between Jerry and Kieth sounds sooo perfect......Man, what a DEW Shocked

Um...
This is the GD section... not the Live After Death Section.

Please post post-Jerry stuff there... so as not to pollute the GD section.

Well, I think the best MDs are from the 1980s, his singing started to do something extra. There are great versions with a lot of over the top guitar soloing...but I will not name favorites it seems to me there are so many great ones. However I will mention one I listened to just yesterday, DP32 from 1982...very fast! Almost like the first Dead studio album version. Pretty good version though.

One I hold dear to my heart that nobody else seems to see what I see in it: 7-10-89, I think the singing is perfect, there are excellent solos but perhaps they don't go far enough over the top to rank this one for most people.

Pre-80s version always seem to lack a proper cathartic vocal peak although instrumentally they are often very high quality. His thick post-coma voice is my favorite for this.

1987 is my favorite year for Morning Dew. Aside from the MSG 9/18/87 epic version, you also have 5/2/87 Frost, 8/15/87 Telluride, and several others that are simply outstanding.

88 and 89 had some killer Dews as well. 3/31/89 is off the hook.
The most recent crushing Dew I've heard is 4/20/84. Definition of gnarly Shocked

Spring of 94 has some pretty good shows, actually... this being among them. Fall has a couple of good ones as well...

Summer, not so much.
