Encore: The Mighty Quinn

Aiko kind of bumbles out, but Jack Straw completely makes up for it as Phil starts dropping bombs. Jerry heads into West LA with a nice gain on his guitar, that again coupled with bombs, leads to a great crashdown. Descending scales are the order of the day in Memphis Blues, followed by Row. A nice, improv heavy Blow Away brings us to two nascent songs, Victim and Foolish to close the set. Interesting to hear the live development of these gems.

Jerry and Phil feeling nimble, they open the set with a spot on Crazy Fingers that transitions directly into the band's theme. The PITB jam sets off with a Phil solo. Jerry takes over, Phil maintaining a prominent role. Jerry puts much gain on his axe and it's off with heads in the audience. The jam later takes a more exploratory turn which finds its way naturally into powerful UJB. The fun isn't over, as the familiar intro chords of Terrapin emerge from the end of UJB. 88 was a great year for Weir, and this TS is an example. To recover from his flub, Jerry adds the gain back to the jam, and all is forgiven. The electric drums and Phil push the tempo, allow Brent and Jerry to fully satisfy. Massive, reverb Phil bombs toward the end make this not to be missed.

A well rounded Wheel pulls us out of space, followed by the welcoming intro of Gimme Some Lovin', where Jerry gets a bit of a rest and let's be honest, Phil has earned this. No rest for the weary lasts long, as they move into a Jerry showcase in Watchtower, which is quite psychedelic! The Dew does not disappoint either, considering Jerry has been heavy on the gain all night, and Phil dropping bombs. Sugar mags sends out the set with the same energy, and a fun Quinn fulfills encore aspirations.

Performance Summary
Despite a couple of fledgling songs to end the set, they did a great job of keeping the energy high in the 1st. The 2nd set goes from graceful to powerful and back again several times. I was down on this show for a while, and that was silly of me.

Sound Quality
A+, good levels and no discernible hiss
