Greetings,

This is my first post on LSP and I have to say I've enjoyed "lurking" for the last week or so. I figured it was time to enter the discussion. I'm a devotee of the Keith era but have recently been branching out to the world of Brett. I'm in the market for some suggestions....right now I'm focusing on finding the best Shakedown of the era. I'm currently digging 4/26/82 in Philly.

What's your favorite Shakedown? And do you have suggestions for the best Brent shows of the decade?

Look forward to hearing from you guys.

Hey, welcome aboard!
OK, great shakedowns...
10/25/79
9/7/85
8/3/82
5/16/81
Those jump immediately to mind...
I want to say 10/21/85 also

Here is a thread that contains a bunch.

As far as best Brent shows, do you mean with Shakedowns? Or in general.
Brent is on fire in 6/8/84 I believe it is...
10/21/83...

Hey Kochman, thanks for the reply! I will look into those Shakedowns asap. My question about the Brent shows is what are some runs or single shows that are the best of the 80s in your opinion? Like if you were to classify the 5/7-5/9/77 run as the quintesential shows of the late 70s, how would you showcase the 80s Brent Era?

I too love Shakedown Street....from debut that I was so lucky to see, it was always my favorite GD song. So many great ones, and so many memorable ones that I attended. 5-14-83 Greek was one that I never get tired of. I think it has everything you could want from that song. I could easily give you my top 25 list. I once said that if the boys played only Shakedown for an entire set it would be fine with me....more than fine.

Welcome.
The Philly Shakedown you have 4/26/82 as the date - are you referring to 4/6/82 or 4/26/83?? Or did you do a "mashup"? Laughing Both those Shakedowns are smokin (4/6/82 might be one of my favorites with the Jerry-Brent duel) The Philly Shakedowns in 87 and 89 are hot too (factoid - did anyone realize they played Shakedown in Philly every year from 82-90 except for 84??)
Other great Shakedowns -
10/31/79
3/24/81
5/8/81
7/14/81
8/28/81
12/28/82
9/8/83
10/22/83
4/16/84
10/20/84
10/30/84
3/27/85

El Duderino,

My bad...the Philly shakdown is 4/6/82, I heard it on the Grateful Dead Channel on Sirius and immediately fell in love with the Jerry Brent duel. So yeah, that's the one I'm referring too. Very Happy

And Jed,

Thanks so much for that list! I will be sure to take a listen to those shows. Much appreciated guys!

Yeah, that 4/6/82 version is great. I had that for years on the GDH tribute to Brent, along with the Spanish Jam later in the set.

The Shakedown that got me into Shakedown, and 80s GD in general, was 11-29-80 Alligator Alley. I'm pretty shocked that that date has not been listed thus far. Monumental Shakedown-Franklin's. My current favorite version is 08-03-82 Starlight Theatre.

Reading all these posts confirms my feelings for Shakedown. It really is the perfect song. Every time it was played the whole place would get happy...in many cases you felt that the show itself would be special.

It had that much pure magic. Still does. Smile

Yup, there was nothing like the anticipation when they started the tuning and you realized it was going to be Shakedown, then that first big fat chord/bomb and the place would erupt.

An excellent GD cover band, their 'home bar' is in Ardmore, but they also play West Chester, Philly, Baltimore, Harrisburg, and surrounding areas.

My personal favorite has to be 1/15/79 Miracle->Shakedown, the transition between the two is bursting with energy as they melt from the Miracle jam into the first note of Shakedown!!! Highly recomended. The rest of the set aint to shabby either: Heart of Me, Terrapin->Playin->Drumz->Playin->Casey Jones.

Hey Dan,

Grabbed my attention with this one. My FAVORITE song of all time by my FAVORITE band of all time. I think you meant the 6th, not the 26th. This one holds a very special place in my heart as it was my "virgin" show. Spectacular! Almost any Philly Shakedown was kick ass, they played it almost every time they came and just LOVED the Philly crowds.
