I am not a fan of heavy metal, but think this is a misnomer in this case anyway. Who can deny that they are one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time?

Same here, I am extreamly picky when it comes to metal that I actually enjoy. But Motorhead has always been my favorite. Lemmy Kilmister has a great leading voice, and they have alot more control than most metal bands.

bsfgt, you ever hear him do stand by me? I know its not motorhead but its just like Lemmy to to take a song that I have no interest in and turn it into something I love.

Yeah, that's cool, I hadn't heard it. That's a different use of his voice, for sure. Lemmy's done some side projects doing rockabilly stuff, too, although I haven't heard much of that either.

After Metallica covered a bunch of Motorhead songs for Garage Inc., Lemmy did a cover of Whiplash that is pretty hot. It's certainly worth tracking down.

Hmm, Whiplash isn't my favorite tune but I'll check it out. One thing I love about Lemmy is that he is a truly great songwriter, unlike Hetfield in my opinion. That is one thing that elevates M-head above the genre, it's hard to think of HM songwriters that can stand toe to toe with the greats.

The only one I would even think of putting in the competition would be Dave Mustaine. He's a smart guy. Seeing him on celebrity Jeopardy will tell you that. But the lyrics he writes are pretty deep. Just put on Rust in Peace or Countdown to Extinction and tell me how many HM songwriters even knew the words he uses before Megadeth put them to music.

I also like that Motorhead isn't locked in to standard song forms. Lemmy is willing to arrange things in no-standard forms. Not every song is verse bridge chorus, verse bridge chorus, although they do that pretty well too.

Believe it or not, even though the lyrics and the whole aesthetic were cheesy as fuck, and I do mean as fuck, Joey Demaio from Manowar wrote some very catchy and accomplished songs on the first three albums, especially the first two and out of those especially the first one. But in order to really appreciate those one must laugh at them, whereas Motorhead is just good.

Off the Motorhead track just a bit, but you want to talk about the worst songwriter ever, look no further than Wayne Static, of Static X. Seriously, punk bands have deeper lyrics. Yeah, you push it. There, I just wrote the entire lyric to Static X's most popular song. How he managed to parlay a career out of that level of ineptitude is beyond me.

Give me Ace of Spades any day!

Motorhead rocks out !
I've seen em a couple of times over the years and their one of those bands that I never get sick of.

I'm glad Lemmy is getting his health back in order, a lot of Motorheadbangers have been worrying since they cancelled their tour dates
