I've always been looking for the answer but never could seem to find it. I could see it being that Jerry's condition was starting to deteriorate and he would have rather gone on with his solo career

I thought we talked about this before... but here is what I remember.
Bruce is a band leader, when he joined up, he joined knowing that it would not be permanent. He was there to help train up Vince (a crazy concept when you think about it)... and eventually he wanted to get back to his own thing.

This explains why he missed so many shows, he was never fully committed to being in the band.

I have always wondered about how he and them got along backstage? what "party favors" were going around? Etc...

I would recommend tracking down the Grateful Dead Hours where Gans interviewed Bruce a year or two after he was in the band. It was broken up over three shows. I seem to remember Bruce saying he left the band after he was sure Vince had finally "gotten it."

Vin Dub was definitely on his game by 1992 and Bruce really was not needed.

I would also say '92 was probably VW's best year in the band. He still had something to prove after Bruce left.

And, coincidentally or not, you decide, my least favorite of the post-Keith period... tied with 76 and 71 for overall least interesting.

And, sadly, I like all of those years! Clearly, our palates are not attuned to the same flavor!

GratfulDuck your post brings up a lot of good questions.
Why did Joan Lunden ever leave Good Morning America......?
Why did Regis leave Kathy....?
Why did Jay Leno leave the Tonight Show....?
These are the questions we should be asking! We demand answers!

Joan left because she was fired.
Kathy left Regis - he didn't leave her.
Jay wanted more money, and a prime time program.
Bruce left because he wanted to spend more time with his twins.

One morning talk show that really goes far out of the box is:
"A CLOSER LOOK" (NBC Faith Daniels) w/John Barlow & Spalding Grey 2-6-92. These guys defending LSD use and Grateful Dead concerts to an audience of housewives is one to see!

Oh, and Bose99...it's Graceful. With a "c". Laughing

I've long bashed 76, the majority of the year anyhow, and will be happy to bash it again.
SLOW, meandering aimlessly into space instead of jamming... I don't mean a structured space, or planned space... more like, the fell asleep and it ended up space...

I just can't dig it.
By the end of the year they had recovered pretty much.

Back to topic - He sucked is the short answer regardless of what he ever said about it.

A fucking accordion? You'd have to be on Persian to let that by.

Egads Hugo!
Sometimes the accordion was the right answer.
Masterpiece for example...

But, I definitely preferred him on the piano, grand as it was.
