BCE is, to me, "THE" psycho wild 60-ish GD tune. It has this flavour ... Pigpen's weird organ sound over the music the melody ... very interesting ...

Now I have started to explore this early years a little more and when I come to this song I stop doing the usual business and just start thinking about those great 67/8 etc.

I love the 02-14-68
New Potato Caboose-> Born Cross-Eyed-> Spanish Jam

There must be more ....

Show me please some shows with strong version of this tune, or better is there a combo or extended jams that involved that song? Guidance needed!

I am intrigued to see any responses to this. BCE is a tune that is "weird" to me in a way that Dead usually aren't and I can't say that I've ever really enjoyed listening to it. The song reminds me of channel surfing late at night.

and tizi, the new avatar? the signature? indulging in a little Island Getaway fantasies, are we? Very Happy

Yeah BCE is a weird song indeed I am interesed to listen to the Masters' suggestions.

My signature is infact a Koch's phrase of a couple of day ago ... so I had to find an avatar that fits in Very Happy

The girl is supposed to be a bosnian turbo folk singer. "Turbo folk" is some kind of extra spiced "modern" techno tunes with strong elements of ethno melodies .... which in this case smells turkish.

I do feel weird with this avatar Shocked

I think Born Cross Eyed is a fascinating tune - it kind of indicates Weir's preference for "weird" times & compositions - and I would guess the arrangement got a lot of input from Lesh as well. It sounds very much like a 'band-composed' song of the kind that disappeared after the Anthem era. (I think Weir wasn't very happy with how it turned out., though.)

It was only played in early '68, and I can't say I recall any one version being stronger than the others. New Potato>Born Cross Eyed>Spanish Jam was a very common medley; in fact they did that almost every time it was played.... I like how this chaotic, disorienting song always segues into space & feedback.

Check out the studio outtakes of Born Cross Eyed b/w Dark Star for the recording session of the single, short but sweet.

1-20-68. BCE sits in the middle of a nice set of tunes.

//Clementine ->New Potato Caboose ->Born Cross-Eyed -> Spanish Jam -> Caution Jam -> Dark Star//
Cool
