While completing my collection of GD shows I have decided to concentrate to the 1971 year. It happens to me to skip easily the 1970 and 1971 mainly because I go directly to either 1972 or 1969/8 shows. I often felt that the mentioned 1970/1 shows were some easy going transition shows ... so I snobbed them.

This 07-02-1971 show have changed my opinion about the era for I have discovered that a 1971 show can rock and rock HARD.

I will not go through single songs, but I can tell you that the GD here sound wild just like a garage band, Phil's bass is like a 200 kn Bull running through the arena. If you take a listen to PITB (where Bob misses completly the first 5 verses) yopu can hear that the band is rolling like a heavy weight tank.

I have to admit that I love the "heavy" GD sound of the 69 era ... but here you have it.

Then there is a very sweet Good Lovin' without the drums sandwiched ... really nice.

Pigpen is in extra shape here!

Just enjoyed with this show during a rainy and dark day here in the North Adriatic Sea!

There is footage on youtube of Casey Jones and Johnny B Goode from this show - it was taken from a documentary called "Last Days of the Fillmore West"
Pretty cool.
This show is a little sloppy in sections, but does rock indeed.
A few other great shows from 71 include:
2/18, 4/5 & 6, 4/17, 4/28, 4/29 Shocked 8/6 (a great AUD) 8/14, 10/31, 11/7,
11/14, 11/15 (best NFA>GDTRFB>NFA ever - major jamming) 12/5, 12/6, 12/10 and 12/15.

I jsut got the compilation of "Last Days" on CD. It's pretty interesting, but not mind blowing stuff. It is a pretty good representation of the acts that played that last week, but it's almost too obvious in the song selections. It was basically put out to make money, not to make great music available.
