Well becasue it's Oct and I haven't listened to these shows in awhile I'm going to go ahead and crank them. I know there are some mediocre moments from these shows, but there are also some great ones as well.

Some of these second sets have some intense jamming. I particulary like the progression of " I've Got My Mojo Working " that shows up first on 10/ 18, makes another appearence on 10/21 and closes out on 10/22. Some are just jams but if I remember correctly Bobbby sings a verse in one of them.

Anyway, it's that time of the year and this run is a very strong one that I think is overlooked a little.

Any thoughts?

Agreed! 10/21 has a smokin' TOO. In fact I'll think I'll give it a listen
n now.

These shows have some powerful moments. I would say 10/18 and 10/21 are the most "complete" shows in terms of hot 1st and 2nd sets. The PLayin>Drums>Mojo Jam>Mind Left Body>Wharf Rat on 10/18 is magic, and the Mojo>TOO>Stella is nothing short of SICK. 10/20 has some good stuff too - esp. the 2nd set. I'm frankly not sure if I've ever given all of 10/17 and 10/22 a listen but pretty sure the NFA>GDTRFB on 10/22 is outrageous. Must have been cool shows to see, with Hamza, new songs and all the post Egypt glow, etc....

Isn't 10/17 the "do you give banjo lessons?" show? Some lady wanders onstage and asks Jerry during space if he'll give her some banjo lessons and he just says "I don't really teach any more" without missing a beat. It all happens off mic, so break out the headphones.

That really is a fantastic moment. I mean what a great non-rock and roll moment there. Any other band that happened to the Rock Star would have pulled attitude and freaked out. Jerry shows such a tenderness there. Imagine if that was Axel Rose or Pete Townshend. Pete would have smashed the gal upside the head ala Abbey Hoffman.

The only other thing I've seen that comes close is the video of Maynard from Tool. Some fan comes on stage to hug Maynard and he takes him down, puts him in a submission hold and basically sings to the guy while fake fucking him. Dude never missed a note. Security looked on and probably thought it was part of the show. Here's the clip

I think Jerry's way was better.

With the exception of Maa '79 or June '91 this may be my favorite run of GD shows...and being the Jack Straw freak I am I would love to know, lucas, how you feel about the versions from 10/17 and 10/22....imo two of the best efforts of all time, SO TIGHT

10/18 is probably my favorite show of the run...the 2nd set post drums is fucking ridiculous.

The 10/22 Olin Arageed is by far my favorite version!

These are definitely some good shows in my book, and I don't normally look to 78 for "satisfaction"... and WAY better than the Egypt shows!

Stella Blue from 10-21 is the greatest thing ever.
