Welcome back Tizi! I figured you were on Ferragosto or something.
That's crazy your house got zapped by lightning like that! Very unfortunate!

Regarding these releases... Wow!
But, still nothing from 1984.

Cornell 80 is an underrated show, for sure!

Thanks for the head's up wvhead!

Well I already knew these shows but I just got the release and sat down and listened carefully...I don't see why everyone on this board thinks 10-8 is better, it seems like a flawed show to me. Jerry is hesitant and buried in the mix a lot, return of H>S> is a big moment but I've heard lots better versions. Bird Song and Morning Dew have some big moments. Miracle>Wheel>GSL out of space is a bit of an endurance test before one gets to the Morning Dew.

The setlist in the first set of 10-09 is pretty crappy, but it sounds like the band is playing better that night to me.

I think 10/9 is totally overrated for an obvious reason...
That's why I think 10/8 is better... but it too is flawed.

10-09 is better. 10-16-89 is probably better than either. Half Step and Deal from 10-16. Plus all the jamminess.

The Dude cannot abide by a Half Step that is missing the "Rio-grandee-o" part.
Lame. I find 10-16 highly overrated. I'll take any of the shows from the 10/18-10/20 Philly run over that one any day.

That's very accurate... just like with the DS the next night.

From my failed HSF project, I can tell you, this HSF was one of the shortest they ever played...

Seems like when they brought it back in 83 and in 89, the first versions were pretty short. I guess they had to get a feel for it, because by the end of 83 and later in 90 they started stretching things out more.

Yeah... that's true, and understandable.

Man, that is some picky shit. There is lots of Jerome howling during the part, one little inane rhyme is missing. Well, I do like the "grandio" thing but this is such a great version, I am way more put off by Scarlet Begoniases that omit the verse before the solo and some all-time great versions do that. 10-16-89 is most likely the best show I saw, and I saw 40 shows...and lots were great...in other words, I disafuckinggree.

Not to mention they played a whole entire show after Half Step, the second song of the night...and it's a great version of Half Step, Grand-i-o or not...

I really dig the Dark Star from 10-09, I don't find it as disappointing as the H>S>F. They had been playing Franklin's Tower right along, and this one is only 8 minutes...of course, if it was jam-packed with Garcia leads that smoke, it would hardly matter, some of the longer ones have fat that could be trimmed. But the fatster is largely subdued here...

Anyway, if even the people who prefer 10-08 think it's flawed, how did it make the final cut for best of the year last poll or so (it did, didn't it?)? There were lots of great shows in 1989.

I rarely vote because I haven't heard so many of the shows. Every time I'm moved to vote, I realize I'd be saying I thought a show I really dig is better than a show I've never heard.

Well, if you had to have heard every show ever, I doubt anyone could vote... you don't have to answer at the pearly gates for your choices after all!

I know, but if I was responsible I'd listen to all the finalists for one year, and then vote on that year. But I suppose you're right that with such scruples, few would vote.

On the other hand, I listened to hardly any Dead betwixt 1994 and 2009, so I imagine a lot of you know a lot more shows than I do. Especially with this internet [CENSORED] that's been going on for the last decade or however long it's been.
