I don't know if this is appropriate to post here or not -- koch, please delete it if it's not cool. But I started a music sharing blog as a summer project and I'm having fun with it, so if you're curious:

I have taken a fast look at your blog and I can say that I like the aestetics. I will read the articles soon. I am interessed in the new music which is out and I have to say that the electornic drums di stop me. So,I will be open for the "new".

I was thinking that you might keep us informed in this thread about the new staff that you will be putting in, so that we can taka a look and read as soon as you pot up the new articles and likns.

You know (I speak for myself) I am pretty lazy Very Happy

okey dokes, hope y'all enjoy. off the top of my head, I've already posted:

karin krog (Norwegian jazz singer who the blog is named after)
nelson angelo y joyce (angelic Brazilian acoustic stuff)
linda perhacs, parallelograms (trippy northwest folk)
stones, exile outtakes (official + bootleg)
the last two levon helm albums
bonnie raitt's 1st album + bonnie & lowell george live
the daktaris (wicked wicked afrobeat/funk)
miles davis, in a silent way
louis armstrong plays w.c. handy
express rising + piano overlord (new-ish "instrumental hip hop")
and some garcia/grisman today for the big guy's b-day (the 3cd pizza tapes), and probably some garcia/wales later. There's not much GD to post that everyone doesn't already have!

I'm doing everything in 320 as opposed to flac, unless anyone has an opinion about it. It's really more an excuse for me to pontificate about music I like rather than just to share my entire harddrive. I ever get my act together and get the needed supplies to do decent lp rips, I'll start rolling through the obscure stuff in my record collection.

I like the idea of sharing the most myterious music you have!
I do prefer mp3s to Flac. I don't think that with Flac you get that better sound quality vs. the space you waste on the HD ... my ears tell me that at least!

Yes, at some point, the noticeable difference threshold in sound quality is not met...
Like 256kb+ is basically going to be the same to your ears as FLAC...

The funny part is when people insist on FLAC when a show is of bad sound quality to begin with... makes me laugh.

I get the "purest" thing, but I don't think it is necessary unless you are seriously archiving for posterity's sake.

Muchos Garcias! More music blogs can't be a bad thing, especially when their creator/s is/are a member of LSP.

Feeling spacey, I put up the Garcia/Wales Side Trips disc and Infrared Roses today. C'mon, when's the last time you really listened to Infrared Roses? Wink

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!

Just put up David Gans' "Crosby Connection" radio special from 2001(?) with Crosby's If I Could Only Remember My Name outtakes and some other tracks with Jerry. It's from gans' pre-fm GDH disc, so the quality is stellar.

I also did the Band's Musical History box set a few days ago, which is a must-have if you like them. Some really, really amazing stuff on there.

Hey Nick, isn't this around the same time as the Planet Earth Rock And Roll Orchestra (PERRO) stuff?

And isn't PERRO where the idea for the MLB jam came from?

I would advise you not to post any official release on your blog,
in less than 1 month of running mine I have received 4 cease & desist orders from the blog hosting company I use that read as such

Quote:
Blogger has been notified, according to the terms of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), that certain content in your blog is alleged to infringe upon the copyrights of others. As a result, we have reset the post(s) to "draft" status. (If we did not do so, we would be subject to a claim of copyright infringement, regardless of its merits. The URL(s) of the allegedly infringing post(s) may be found at the end of this message.) This means your post - and any images, links or other content - is not gone. You may edit the post to remove the offending content and republish, at which point the post in question will be visible to your readers again

goes on to tell me I should retain my own legal counsel if I decide to republish
now don't get me wrong the music I posted was BOOTLEG material, these were King Biscuit Flour Hour recordings, done off the radio originally, but still considered copyrighted..

aiko, I appreciate the heads up, but I'm content to keep this somewhat under the radar for the time being. it's more an excuse to spew about music I like than anything else.

yeah. As far as I can tell, the majority of the Crosby album was done in Nov-Dec 1970, and the stuff that circulates as the "PERRO sessions" are from a couple days in Jan 71. The "official" PERRO albums are Crosby's IICORMN, and the two Kantner/Starship albums "Blows Against the Empire" (the first PERRO family project, I think) and "Baron Von Tollbooth" (which has "your mind has left your body"). My unsubstantiated theory is that "PERRO sessions" Jan 71 stuff is just the whole group of them screwing around at Wally Heider's with no particular project in mind.

According to Steve Silberman et al, the only real outtakes from IICRMN are the things Gans played on the radio. I think they blow away all of the other PERRO stuff. There's another tune (an instrumental?) called "Coast Road" that doesn't seem to circulate widely (it's mentioned in the Taping Compendium's review of these sessions), which I would give my left nutella to hear.

Thanks for the info. I have most of the PERRO stuff, but if this is different, I need to check it out!

The law hasn't slapped my hand yet, so a here's bump/update of what I've put up in the past few weeks:

some Lester Young sessions (today's his birthday!)
Grupo Revelacao (contemporary Brazilian samba)
Donny Hathaway Live (the greatest live soul album ever, imho)
two totally crackin' live Duke Ellington albums
some African music recorded on cell phone
Otis Rush (ridiculous raw 50's Chicago blues)
Pitamaha (gamelan music from Bali, and my favorite gamelan recording)
Jorge Ben, Forca Bruta
Al Green, I'm Still in Love With You
a mix tape of some late night drinkin' & thinkin' music
some King Tubby
