Melvin Seals - Keys, Vocals
Stu Allen - Guitar, Vocals
Jimmy Tebeau - Bass
Pete Lavezolli - Drums
Cheryl Rucker - Vocals
Cheryl Starks - Vocals

Sadly, Melvin is the only person in the band that actually played with Jerry. I thought Jackie, Gloria and Dave were still floating around with Melvin (they were in extras on the JGB at Shoreline DVD). I guess it's proof that the wheel does keep on turning.

Would it make a big difference if anyone else who played with Jerry was in this group? Would David Kemper really make this sound any different? To be fair, I was surprised at how good this sounded, and I would definitely pay a few bucks to see them, but after the first two songs I remembered that I was listening to a very good cover band of an even better cover band, with a few gigs' worth of the real deal only a few clicks away.

Does it matter? Probably not. I too would probably spend a few bucks to go see them. But I'd spend a few dollars more to see more of that last JGB lineup. Jackie and Gloria had finally developed a feel for those songs Jerry loved so much. Listen to just about any JGB show in the '90s and you will feel some very strong spiritual feelings; it's a very moving experience, at least for me. I may be looking to find something that's just not out there. I was never fortunate enough to see the JGB. Thus, if I were to go see them now, I'd really prefer to see as many of those who did play/sing with Jerry as I could. To me, this is really the Melvin Seals Band. I like Melvin's playing. But to me, calling it the JGB is not really accurate when only one of the six people in the band ever played in any incarnation of the JGB prior to Jerry's departure.

This doesn't mean this isn't a good band or is in no way worthy of a listen. It only means that, to me, it just ain't the JGB without the J, the G, or the B!

I haven't heard them, but haven't wanted to see them... they never really come to my neck of the woods though...

Worth the price of admission to check them out I bet. Seals is pretty good.
