Is it 10=31=71 in Dark Star? That's what I was thinking.

I like the 10-31-71 better than Harpur...it's tighter and has a better guitar solo, to my mind. But the main issue I want to address is the following: I just stumbled back onto this thread, and saw there were 4 replies. But I was never notified via email of these replies. In the time that has gone by since I posted the original comment, I have been alerted about replies on other topics, however. It is, of course, possible that I already saw one or two of the comments and forgot, but unlikely, and D&D's comment was just yesterday so I definitely wasn't alerted about that one. No notifications in the spam box, either. I wonder what gives? So anyway, somebody respond to this please so I can see if I get an email or not. Without the notifications, it's pretty much impossible to remember what threads to go back and look at...

Did it work?

You can also go into your profile and select:

Thanks a lot. Yes, I had it checked, it was only this thread (as far as I know) that I wasn't notified about. But I did get notified this time, so I don't know what happened. I suppose it is an insoluble mystery. Anyway, thanks for replying.

Confession time: I have no idea what a tighten-up jam sounds like. Can someone provide timings from 10/31/71 and 5/2/70 so I can educate myself?

On Dicks Pick 2, the Tighten Up jam in Dark Star starts at 13:28.

Here's the original song, which has a similar two-chord vamp (starting 10 seconds in).

Zephyr,

I haven't had a chance to go look at the time on the Harpur thing, but here is an excellent article on thematic jams from an excellent blog that has an excellent section on "Tighten Up" if you scroll down a bit:

Me too! I've heard that rhythm many times before, never realized that was what a "tighten up jam" was... cool.

There was a pretty damn good Tighten Up jam in the middle of the Dancin' In The Streets from the 11-8-1970 show. One of my overall favorite moments from the GD.

No, it's different. I think there are references early in the thread, but at the risk of sounding patronizing, the main difference is that the Tighten Up jam is based on "Tighten Up" whereas the Feelin' Groovy jam is based on "Feelin' Groovy."
