I am done running this place... Sick of the bullshit. I have bigger fish to fry than having to defend myself every other post.

Who wants to be "the man"? Answer up, and you shall be the admin of the site.

If there are no answers, this place will just fold at the end of the month.... July 2010.

Personally, Koch I would prefer you to stay. But if you decide to step down that is your decision and I won't and prolly can't talk you out of it.

With this said, I would hope you still hang around and engage in the on going conversation about the Grateful Dead!!!

This should come down a to a nomination process, and if the nominated one is up for the task to take reigns of this forum then so be it.

It is a shame that you are stepping down Koch, you have done a hell of a job running this nuthouse.

Yeah, that's a bummer Kochman. But I think the site should survive.

If you're really doing this, then I nominate dogstarz to run the place.

hey guys I am sorry I have not been around much, been a busy over committed summer.

First of all Coke I missed whatever's been going on that has bothered you so much but I do hope you won't step down and I would like to see this site continue.

I second the nomination of Dogstarz. Maybe you two can co administer? Whatever happens Coke I hope you will stay involved in the site.

Personally I'd love to see you Koch run the show .... so please think it over!

If you still feel you had enouh with the admin thing I respect that. I just didn't get what happened .....

Let's just all make an effort to keep this forum alive, I got to know you all so it would be really bad to switch the lights off.

I think that Dogstarz is an excellent person and he could be the admin if he acceptes the nominee. But Koch please think it over 1 more time my friend!!!

That's 3 noms for dogstarz...
Unless anyone objects sometime this week, I will start talking to him about it.

I will still be around, I just have some problems I am dealing with at the homefront, and it is taking every bit of spare energy that I have... so I can't commit.

If dogstarz is up for it I'll give him the nomination nod too. That is a shame Koch, but real life is more important than being the admin of a website. I give you a "HUZZAH!" for your service.

I would like to thank everyone for the nominations. I do accept to take on the role of mod. This is a great community that I do not see go away. There are a lot of great projects here that I would like to see go on and many more to come.

assuming dogstar is going to "keep to the code" i.e. retain the current original charter, DS would have my support..
That being said, I still feel this place is best in koch's hands. I thank koch for providing this fine forum and his tireless work here.
I also realize my frequent chatbox battles with the forces of "duckness" are a contributing factor, and for that I am truely sorry.

Koch man, Im gonna miss you brother. Im still sorta in shock as I just read this for the first time....You created a community out of thin air, just by virtue of your hard work. Prior to this I had never been a part of any online community, and I appreciate the invite you sent me 2 years ago back on Demonoid. For all of the ups and downs, I still dig this place and it is in no small part due to you. Go easy man, and I wish you luck although I know you will be fine. See you around....

DS - Excellent that you are stepping up...Ill help you any way I can, just lemme know.

My dsl has been out since last week so I just saw this. I think dogstarz is a great choice if he can pull it off. Good luck to him!
It would be cool to see Kochman here in some capacity once in a while if that's possible, but if not, understandable.

Seriously I think we owe Kochman an opportunity to take a break for a while as the Admin, AND THEN RETAKE THE HELM. Just because he has some things to deal with now does not mean that he wants to permanently step away, even if he says he does.

Darkstarz would be an excellent Admin of course, I just think that for now "Interim Admin" would be more appropriate until after a period of time for Koch to make a decision about future Admin status.

If Koch deserves "a break" then let's give him that before saying goodbye and assuming that he will not be a major presence here.

I'm sure he'll around some, and back to his regular self at some point. Don't want him to get too stressed out and end up like this guy...

Well, this little experiment is done.
Not your fault DS... I just wanted to see how long it would be before someone tried to get me ousted at the site I created.

Skobud did so within 2 weeks!!! Amazing, I thought it would be longer than that.

I will be the admin, I won't post much, c'est la vie.

So many of us here lent you support and were hoping you would take care of yourself in addition to backing your reccomendation that DS take over as admin...and now you are telling us it was just an experiment? WTF is going on here?

Much like Jacksonville Sharks QB Bernard Morris, who is filling in for the injured Aaron Garcia (yes, Garcia). While Morris doesn't have the veteran leadership and accuracy of Garcia, he is fleet-of-foot and can improvise out there.

Here is your answer...

Hey Bro

I Pmd DS about this. Im still in shock man. He is literally out of his mind. He sent me a wild PM last night also, but it lacked the blatent threats. Wouldnt it be ironic if he got banned from his own creation? Im still a little creeped after reading that. WHt do you think?

That's Part A of an answer. Part B would be a full explanation of what is going on for all the good people who have been coming to your site for such a long time now.

You've got a lot of fans and supporters here, Koch. Stop treating us all like enemies.

I am not treating you "all" like enemies... I took precautions deemed reasonable at the time when I banned two people who were conspiring to get me banned from my own site.
Turns out one is innocent, and he can come back, and I already told him as much in an e-mail I just sent to him a couple of minutes ago. I understand that 48 long hours have passed that he was out, but...

Skobud's done though.
First of all, the direct reason I started to think to retire from here was I was tired, specifically, of his constant attacks. Rather than fight back, I just semi-retired. Not good enough for him though...
I am tired of being called a racist by him, and being trolled by him, because I don't follow his ideology. It is an afront to me and the men I fought and bled with, and I won't tolerate that crap at all... then trying to get me banned through PMs behind the scene... which is in direct violation of the charter...
He's done. He fucked up.
I should have nipped it in the bud when he asked me, via PM, to ban other people here, instead of just ignoring him. At the time I didn't think he would go so far as to try to get me banned! Hindsight being 20/20...

So Coke, it looks like you are reading the private messages that people are writing to each other on this site. Is that correct or did I misunderstand? I do not know if you as an administrator can do that. I really hope not and if you can, it creeps me out that you would. Not cool. I can not speak for everyone else, but personally I do not know what to think. I am not digging all of this drama.

First, you said you were done as an administrator and if no one else stepped up, the site would fold. Then DS stepped up to the plate because we all asked him to, and you turn around and say it's an experiment? WTF man?

I have sources... people can forward messages.

As for experiment, bad term on my part... it became that when skobud tried to get me banned from my own site, I had to retake the reigns.

I don't think DS would have banned me from my site, for the record, because he is a good dude.

It's just more proof that the sun shines on all of us equally, but none of us casts the same shadow. We all can have opinions, but your rights end where mine begin. Just keep treating people the way you want to be treated and things will be fine.

In the immortal words of James Hetfield,
"Good day. How do? And I send a smile to you.
Don't waste, waste your breath.
And I won't waste my hate on you."

Anyhow, it is fucked up. I was out of the net most of the day yesterday, and didn't have time to respond to this stuff... today at work I did.

I am sorry for the drama, the weird way it looked, and I definitely don't want more drama. The bottom line is, as soon as I turned my back, someone tried to put the knife in. I took immediate, rash action, figured out the situation better, and want to put the problems to bed.

I agree totally ... what has happened inthe last week or so???!!!

Let's just calm down and discuss about the GD ... I think it would be wise to get rid of the "political section" which seems to have started the meltdown!!!! I have just changed my opinion after reading the previous posts!

Just all calm down ...OK?

I haven't really had time to go through a lot of the threads. But I read this one, and thanks for the note about my slogging away at the links.

Koch, I think you're doing an commendable and a remarkable job at this. DS did great stepping in for the last few days. People should recognize that it's not a right to be a member of this forum; it's a privilege.

That said, I'd be happy to take a turn at doing any admin work, etc. I've been a webmaster for the last 15 years, and am about to retire in three weeks. So, I'll be having some time on my hands to get into other things.

Koch, PM me so we can chat.

Bob

Bob, thank you for your kind offer.
I will send you a PM, and I appreciate your post.

Politics was permanently deleted, and won't be coming back. This is a Grateful Dead site, we can all discuss politics elsewhere, it gets to hot and heavy over the internet (not just here, but any site that has politics really).

Wait. Did Ziti get banned too? Just because he owed us a review of set 2 from 6/21/87? And why are we all calling him Ziti?

Lucas is blatantly ripping tizi zephyr, where does it say he got banned? If Tizi (sorry tizi) gets ripped, I am not happy, he is a high quality member.

"Ziti" is not a member here. It is a food, which I am fond of...

"Tizi" is a member here, and I am glad to have him as a friend.

Gosh Mr. Zephyr just keeps on reminding me of my missed homework!!! Laughing

I'm fine and alive, thanks for asking!!!

... and people I am working my ass off, and will be taking a 2 weeks off ... but I will still be around.

And ... by the way I love you all guys just don't star a civil war please!!!

Yes Zitti is a pasta from Naples I prefer the spaghetti or bavette (expecially with "frutti di mare"). The Zitti are just too thik I have a package home just I don't have a good recipt .... well I might star a therad!

But ... Zitti means in italina "silence" (it is more like an order really) ... so I might change my name here Laughing

For Dead's sake let's all calm down a bit!!!

Is that the Sopranos? I'm being serious now, I've never seen an episode of that show. Working second shift and not having cable or much tv at all to speak of are two reasons I am not plugged into tv. I still think it sounds like a swipe at Tizi though. I will accept the explanation by lucas as a joke, no hard feelings here.

Let's see, I think lucasmcain was equating "Koch without Politics" to "Tony Soprano without Ziti." and I was pretending confusion over Tizi versus Ziti.

We all need to go back to work and stop joking around. Laughing

Yes Cheese, that is from the first Episode of the Sopranos and I know Koch likes the show so I was making a joke. Its a phrase I use a lot. I find it funny.

I in no way was ripping on Tizi or anyone else for that matter.

The good part of not knowing the US slang is that you don't get the feeling of getting "swipped"(?!) .... no seriously I do think that people can talk freely ... come on here in my region you are not a real friend if you can't say to your buddy a friendly "go and [CENSORED] yourself" .... you know this is a proof of frinedly intimacy Laughing

Lucas everything is cool man I understand tha joke!!!

This is how I operate personally, unfortunately, sometimes over the internet it doesn't come off as funny or non-judgmental as it is in real life... people see only the words, they can't hear the tone, etc...

And they, myself included, WIG OUT!!!

Makes for fun stories later, but can certainly be annoying at the time for both parties.

As long as you've seen Arrested Development you'll be fine. You have seen Arrested Development, right? If not, you may be in trouble.

I have seen a few episodes of that, my wife borrowed the dvd set of that one time. Pretty good show. Right now I'm still working on Get a Life, the old Fox show, the episode where Chris and his dad build a box top submarine in the bathtub and get stuck is hilarious.

I have not seen Titanic or Avatar, and don't plan on it. Arrested Development is one of the most brilliant shows ever to come on TV, Get a Life was a classic too.
Both appeal to my warped sense of humor. Personally I wish there was a Chris Elliot channel.

WoW, this is why I am a Ledhead, not a Deadhead. Zep sites don't have nearly this type of drama, except maybe the official site.

Every GD site I belong to (Lossless Legs, Workingman's Tracker, here, and the super secret one no one is supposed to mention) often equals a group of teenage girls with the drama that is created. But, in all fairness, it usually is the same small group of people that create it.

Koch, regardless if you decide to take short or long breaks from the site, you should never put yourself in a position where you can actually be banned from the site you created. DS seems like a reasonable guy and probably wouldn't try to go down that path, but still you should make sure you leave a key under the mat for yourself somewhere. Good job DS for stepping to take the reigns, regardless if it was somewhat temporary or not.

These are points very well made.
There is one thing that still really bothers me though. Sunday at 11:22 am I received a pm from Skobud. Before I saw any of this, I read his message, which was disturbing compared to 99% of any other pms I have ever received here, and I have been a member here for two years. It mentioned that Kochman "blantently threatened" snowandrain, and sko demanded my opinion. Not having any info, I couldn't form an opinion. The next part said something like "I know the police got involved" when there was some earlier drama, which I was never aware of. Anybody at all have any input on this? I asked dogstarz and he didn't know, I am assuming he got blindsided and swept up in this, for which I feel bad for him.
I don't want a hysterical rant either, I just want some input, I am subject to enough of other people's agendas in my offline world and am smart enough to make my own opinions.

I consider you equal man, it is cool that you are on board with the experience and your posts are totally appreciated. I usually try not to get caught up in obvious silliness. The only reason I got caught up in this is that Skobud sent me a message out of the blue which I described above. Otherwise I would just keep on listening to my sweet music and watching my 3 little kids during the day before work. I love playing GD for the kids, they totally dig it. My oldest, 5 year old daughter, loves Eyes of the World.

Thanks guys! It's a community, and we all have our parts to play. We can't all be the "Jerry." I appreciate all informed input, even if I don't agree. If we all loved the same version/performance, we'd be the kind of folks that listen to classic rock radio and only listen to the same old "records." I like to poke around and find new stuff. It's why I joined and why I keep coming back.

Dude, Cheese, I got 5 bottles from a 6 pack of Terrapin in my refrigerator as we speak. I kid you not! Saw it at the store and couldn't not buy some.

Weird indeed ... think about it a beer featuring a GD logo, from a factory in Athens GA the town of the ABB and Panic, trying to get as much hippies to drin it!!! Laughing

OK, I would like a Terrapin IPA please.

Very Happy

Sweet choice. I've never seen these, but I've got a few bottles of the Jerry wine and Marilyn Mansynthe (his personal blend of Absynthe) in the cellar. I'll need to order a few! Come on over!

So Swami, what's the verdict? Is it worth ordering a case over the internet?

I had a Lost Sailor IPA on the trip to NH a few weeks back. Made by
Brewing Company South Deerfield, Mass. Pretty tasty stuff.
What are some other GD related beers?
Pretty sure I've had a Darkstar porter or stout - I think from Star Hill Brewery in Charlottesville.
I remember on my last trip to SF about 10 yrs back, soon-to-be-wife and I were in some brewpub in the Haight that had mostly Dead related beer names.

I just checked and what I have is the Rye Pale Ale. It's pretty good but I'm not much of a beer connoisseur. A lot of those micro-brews or "good beers," have a similar taste to me.

Yes, it does. That PM is from my inbox. I never forwarded it to anyone.

Hey S&R, so, you came back. The very fact that you can come back in shows I have nothing to hide.

Interesting that you did come... Just to sow more discord? Or what?

That message was sent, as quoted, to someone else too. Meaning, it was sent in those very quotes to someone where Skobud showed what he sent to you... As part of his conspiracy efforts to get me banned from my own site, Skobud sent messages to other people besides you S&R.
I really don't feel like debating this more, so that is the final time I will address these charges. If you don't believe me, then I guess that's too bad...

Time to let it go and start over, no?
If you are coming here just to stir up shit, JUST move on, as I have.
Clean slate is offered. Do you accept?

I'm not interested in sowing dischord. Just doing a little housecleaning. This is the first time I've seen this thread since you banned and then unbanned me. I don't really care whether you read my PMs or not. I always assumed that you did anyway. The main problem is that you really dish out a lot of shit, and then can't take it when it comes back to you. And then you ban people at the drop of a hat, with no accountability for yourself. There's no reason to expect that will change if I come back. So no, I don't accept. And goodbye.

Exactly.
People want to frame this situation this way or that... and I really just want to move past it.
The show will go on.
