This is placed in the Brent era section for a reason...
So, which of the options do you prefer?

The list is songs that at least in some point during the era were semi-regularly found coming out of space... will add more if you have examples.

I'm a sucker for a ballad out of space, it means a mellow, not scary space, and it is generally calm yet beautiful space if it leads to a ballad...
Next vote would be for Miracle... or TOO.. the exact opposite feeling.

I guess I really don't prefer the Wheel out of space... it's a fun song to sing along to and all, but fuck, I don't want it... it seems like filler to me.

I am ok with anything out of space. Then again I am somewhat of a fan of space. The Other One, a finishing of a Dark Star are all preferences.

From what I have read and remembered that I have read, Jerry was fond of placing a ballad after space. Something coherent after exploratory music.

I voted Other One, but ballad would be a close #2 choice.

Well Koch another disagreement here. I love The Wheel out of space. Especially if it has a long build-up before the vocals start. I like how the other instruments come in as well. And the whole Wheel theme was a favorite of mine especially at shows. The whole circle being completed yet still goin on is great imagery.

Ditto. It was always calming, uplifting, joyous.
Also in this era GDTRFB came out of space especially in 87-88. Loved that too.

Small wheel turned by fire and rod
Big wheel turn by the grace of God
Every time that wheel turn'round
bound to cover just a little more ground

Filler Shocked Exclamation Question

Since the beginning of The Wheel is technically Space on Garcia's Garcia, shouldn't the setlist look like this: Drums>The Wheel?

I guess the best way I can put it is that it is pretty cheesy. I always find myself singing along with it, which is a sing of cheesedom to me... (see Don't Ease Me In).

The Wheel was close behind TOO for me, but I also don't mind a ballad out of space like China Doll. Listened to 7/18/89 a week or two ago, nice space>china doll Cool

Oh yeah!! Loved that. I remember a show at the Cap Centre, maybe 88, where Phil was pounding the crap out of his bass, getting all kinds of feedback, etc., then launched into Gimme Some Lovin' Cool

I always liked Mr. Fantasy out of space. It was such an appropriate song in the post-coma era. The Without A Net version is a perfect example.
