So I was having a conversation with a friend of mine today and he was telling me about DSO etc, etc, and he said that fake Donna did a pretty good job. So I got to wondering if those of you who have seen DSO thought that Fake Donna was/is better than the Real Donna?

As far as fake Jerry....what do we call him now because the original fake Jerry is kinda actually the ' New' Jerry now that he is playing for Further ( The New Fake Dead)? I won't even go into the Other Fake Jerry who plays with the abortion that is touring as JGB ( Melvin and Company )

And what about Warren....Was he a Temporary Jerry or a Temporary Dickie Betts playing Jerry riffs? I mean I like Warren and all but where do you slot him??

Sorry!! This crap has been bothering for a long time .

Fake Donna at least as good if not better than real Donna...Fake Donna also kinda sexy in the way she dances without any hangups in front of the crowd with those headphones on.......bangbang Very Happy Ive seen DSO only three times and I dug her everytime. Maybe it was my state of mind, but she did sound great.

Now, Fake Jerry is great. By Fake Jerry I mean JK not Warren. Warren is just Warren and he always sounds like Warren. I dig Warren. I think Warren is a great backup player if you cannot get the "real" Fake Jerry. Laughing

Fake Donna, much better than real Donna. I had the opportunity to see them in a head to head matchup - DSO played Rams Head Live in Baltimore a few years back with Donna Jean and The Tricksters opening. Donna sounded OK with her band, but then she got on stage with DSO (they did 2/27/77) and um, not so good. She and fake Donna sang together and "Fonna" has better pipes for sure.

Now, "Ferry" is damn good as well - he will never fill the shoes of the Great Gar, but as far as the imitators go, he is king [CENSORED] and can channel some X factor.
Warren - "Fuane"
Jimmy Herring "Fickey Betts"

I LOVE IT!!! Fonna for the Win!. I heard Fonna was pretty damn sexy in the that she dances as well. I think it is unfair in a head to head since Donna Jean has some where mileleage and I thought she looked pretty good in the Day ( Koch, I know you hate her!! )

As far as Ferry is that Ferry Mach I or Ferry Mach II? Fuane is good, I like that. but Jimmy Herring ain't no Fickey Betts...he's got his own style. Sometimes I think he tries to put waaaay too many notes in his solos but since he replaced George ( in Widespread Panic ) who replaced Mikey we can label him Fikey! Sound cool to you?

So we have:
Ferry Mach I = The old fake Jerry with the new fake Dead.

Ferry Mach II = The new fake Jerry with DSO

Fuane= Temporary

Fikey= replacement fake Jerry, Dickie, Mikey

Then we have Fobby, Fill, Filly, Ficky, Frent or Figpen or Fieth ( does one guy fill in all the key spots? ) and Fonna. I can live with this!

What do we call the guy who plays with JGB? I hate to admit this but I caught these guys in Cleveland back in 99 or so and their fake Jerry was pretty good. But it was then that I found out I really had a hard time listening to the music where Jerry ( the real one ) was supposed to come in. It made me really ,really sad and I swore off going to anymore Fake shows.

Look, I get it. Folks are having a great time at these shows and are listening to competent musicians play music they dig. Great! I'm happy these folks can get off on it. For me at least, I get so fuckin sad and depressed that I can't get over the fact that Jerry's gone and the show becomes very uncomfortable for me. I had a good discussion with my friend yesterday about this. He still goes to these shows and digs them and can't understand why I won't go or get into it.

Even as someone who tries to find Donna's diamonds in the rough, instead of grabbing a pitchfork and joining the lynch mobs, I have to wholeheartedly agree.

Seen "Fonna" four times and she is much better on the ears, although mid-seventies Donna was easier on the eyes.

When it comes to guitar playing abilities, Jeff Mattson is much better than John K.

I've always been impressed with Jeff everytime I have seen him play with the Trickster's, but after seeing him play with DSO back in Feb, he impresses even more. It may be silly to compare, but I compare Jeff's playing with '77-'81 Jerry.

I will have to disagree with this one Gopher. I tried to listen to "If I Had The World to give with Jeff on vocals. One of my favorite songs ruined. He might be able to play guitar but to be Fake Jerry Part Deux it was rather disappointing.

Whoa, whoa, whoa...hold up a second. If I get this straight then.....Ferry Mach II played in the Zen Tricksters with the REAL Donna in the what ??? Donna Jean and the Tricksters ( Tricksters Mach II )

This whole mess is starting to resemble the FLDS or Big Love Laughing

Alright now it is time for the family tree that is The Grateful Dead...

Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions
* Jerry Garcia guitar, kazoo, banjo, vocals
* Ron "Pigpen" McKernan harmonica, vocals
* Bob Weir guitar, washtub bass, foot crusher, jug, kazoo, vocals
* Dave Parker washboard, kazoo, tin cup, vocals
* Tom Stone banjo, mandolin, guitar, vocals
* Mike Garbett washtub bass, guitar, kazoo

Grateful Dead
Jerry Garcia
Bob Weir
Phil Lesh
Bill Kreutzmann
Ron "Pigpen" McKernan
Mickey Hart
Tom Constanten
Keith Godchaux
Donna Jean Godchaux
Brent Mydland
Vince Welnick
Bruce Hornsby

and that is really where it stops to matter huh?

Although, I might actually start a family tree thread here so others can help and fill in the gaps.
