I believe that this is a golden era for club/dance music in an underground kind of way. Pop music is still dominated by a lot of hip-hop and shitty "rock," at least on the radio. But dig a little deeper and you find some gems in the genre generally known as "dance." Sub-genres include House, Techno, Industrial, and my favorite - Trance. Generally powerful and smooth female vocals with a steady beat and spacey ambiance does the trick.

Here are my three current favorite songs, and I will post more as they hit the scene.

"So Far Away" by Kaskade & Seamus Haji ft. Haley

One final observation before I leave this open to commentary: remixes are crucial, as the original versions of songs in this genre tend to be too soft without the rhythmic undertones added after the fact.

This is one of my favorite dance tunes from the always epic Richard D James aka Aphex Twin.

Here's a previous, similar thread...

Dance music = House music, which features the beats and vocals... whereas trance is more electronic noises, generally with less singing, and more ambient grooves. Lot's of overlap between the two.

Definitely love House and Trance...
Great examples of House DJs:
Johnny Vicious
DJ Irene
Louie Devito

Trance DJs:
DJ Tiesto
Arman van Buren
Lasgo

Kaskade, Above & Beyond, and Deadmau5 are all D.J. groups that I would make a point to see live. Excellent work done by all 3.

I've been getting more and more into this genre of music, and have realized that Tiesto and Armin Van Buren are somewhat overrated. There are some awesome DJs out there that don't get enough praise, like Arty, Boom Jinx, Super 8 & Tab to name a few.

I just received my copy of Anjunabeats Vol. 8

And it is freaking awesome. Some amazing songs on their from various artists. If anyone is interested PM me and I'll burn a copy. Trance music like this is very inspirational and takes me away from reality much like the GD. I know most of you are stuck on traditional forms of music i.e. rock n' roll, but for me this is what's happening now and I'd love to share the wealth.

I agree that Van Buren is overrated, but not Tiesto!

A little known couple of DJs that I love...
Marco V
DJ Johan Van Geilen

Right now I am working on a CD of house/dance music from Brazil and Portugal... I wish I still had my program to make segues, but I don't.

By the way if anyone would like a free copy of my compilation, DEPTH (Dance Electro Progressive Trance & House), Volume 1, please send me a PM with your mailing address.

The above "Deepest Dream" is sure to be included in Volume 2.

I am extremely excited about Volume 2 of my DEPTH series, which is ready for release on Monday. Compared to Volume 1, released in early September with tracks ranging from Dance/Pop to Dark House and Trance, Volume 2 takes a deeper dive into the Progressive House realm while still giving a fair dose of Trance. For those who appreciate great production, melodies, and beats - this one will rock your world. For others who desire catchy choruses and quick payoffs in songs, this one will not be for them. Only 2 out of 11 tracks on Volume 2 contain actual "lyrics."

A limited amount of very cool CD insert covers, front and back containing the track list, are available. Send me a PM for a free copy. It will serve you right during your holiday parties and travel time.

The DEPTH series is full steam ahead, with over 20 on the current mailing list. Volume 4 I predict will be a cult favorite, and will be released within the next month. It will continue to emphasize the P for Progressive and straddle the line between House & Trance, while still at times delving deep into both.

If anyone else may be interested to check it out, simply PM me your mailing address and wha-la, a free copy will be yours. I never charge for the CDs and I cover all postage.
