I don't think there is an existing thread...so let's play some post your favorites Smile

What do you look for in a good Jimmy?
For me it's the jam leading into, 'broken heart don't feel so bad', some really beautiful [CENSORED] can come out of it.
Examples:

9/27/76
3/20/77
4/27/77
5/8/77
5/19/77
4/21/78
12/28/79
10/15/89
3/27/91
6/14/91
3/18/92

4/12/78 Duke is my all time fave. They actually launch into X factor territory during the 2nd instro break, with Keith getting into it.

6/23/74 and 6/28/74 are fine versions, but I gotta admit, 73-74 they played it so much I cannot really recall many others.
Other good ones if I recall...
12/28/79
3/24/81
4/3/85
6/25/85
11/10/85
3/26/87

I like the dopaso line.

...no favorites at the moment, but I must say that I am disappointed if there is no interplay between the keyboards and lead guitar starting with the second or third chorus after the jukebox verse.

What are some general thoughts about this tune? I know of at least one member who thinks it's a snoozefest Wink

I think it's a really great song because there is plenty of opportunity for Jerry to get creative during his solos that can sometimes be oh so dreamy.

Snoozefest indeed...
It's actually about falling asleep in a bathtub if I remember correctly... that may just be my interpretation though... so, that does make it a snoozefest.
Row, row, row, row, row...

Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream,
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.

Love this tune, and had to defend it many times.
Favorite renditions are the shift to the bouncing speed up outro, after the slow starts.

Have to sort through for personal picks.

Off the top of the head:

2/9/73 Roscoe Maples
2/24/74 Winterland
6/29/76 Chicago (mellow, like '76, plus a Mission in the Rain)!
6/8/77 Winterland

You ain't got half of what you thought you had.

Row Jimmy rules, there's one from Greensboro in 1989 that is very good. I was at that 6-14-91 and the Row Jimmy stood out at the time, good to see props. Right now I will say 5-21-77. I see someone mentioned 5-19 which I think is also excellent, my sense is that 5-21 is slightly better but I'd have to check on that, it's possible they are equally good or even that 5-19 is better but 5-21 made a bigger impression on me, and I've listened to both within the last week or two as they are on the same Dick Pick.

Just heard a great version from 9/20/93 - featuring a delicate and extended 2nd jam!
