Here's a start anyway: (I like this idea. I haven't listened to a big enough variety across the years to justify calling anything "best of", but "favourite so far" I can live with - a work (or play) in progress. )
(Kochman, I'm listening to your 1990 Dark Star right now. I definitely like what the keyboards are doing here - can't tell which from whom - but the rest of it sounds a little fuzzy and over synthesised for my taste. Good, though, to get out of the comfort zone now and again and pay attention.....)
Black Muddy River
In the Dark
Eyes of the World
Looks Like Rain
Playin' In The Band
The Promised Land
Ship of Fools (with intro)
1976-06-18 (DLSeries v 4)

My favorite Straw is still the Europe 72 release - 5/3/72.
Isn't that one "altered"? If so, disqualified, unless you are referring to the unaltered version.
I have heard that they put some extra production into some of the songs, however, when producing the songs, they destroyed the original recordings in the process. Don't know how true this story is. If remastering is altering, aren't a lot of tracks on the archive "altered?" Of course, it may be sped up too to sweeten the sound, but aren't some of the recordings on the archive in need of some speed adjustment too? I don't think J Straw was altered though, I could be wrong.
The Jack Straw and China Rider are on this source, the sbd off of archive.org. So it doesn't count? Still my favorite. I am streaming it right now, almost identical to the album version to my ears. Also played this at a listening party once.

Also, the Norman/Latvala source is up there. Masse sbd too. They all sound pretty good to me, none of them sound "altered" to me, maybe other songs on the album were. Bears some looking into, maybe I will check it out later.
That's all I can think of right now. Most of them there are too many. Some of my favorites are based on the vocals, so if they perplex you maybe that's why. The computer won't let me go back and put the ones in bold that I forgot to type that way the first time.[/i][/b]
