Well, not on acid, but I felt like I could also see colorful notes coming out of the speakers for this one.

Here is my inverted review... since I went so far back in time, I thought I would work from the end of the show forward on the review... I don't listen to it that way though, don't worry.

ALLIGATORRRRRRRR! Pig, take it from here... Some lady yells Alligator! And they tell her, yeah, coming up. Maybe that is the same lady that made me hate a certain AUD from 78...

New Potato>Born Cross Eyed>Spanish Jam>Alligator... well, you just better queue this up tonight and listen to it. Starting so mellow and beautiful, notes in all the right spots... Pig puts in some good organ work even. Then, ahhh, chaos starts, the song gets more and more wild, like we want it! Rapid fire transition to Born Cross Eyed... great song I mainly heard on Long Strange Trip Its Been back in the day! It is a bit chaotic, circus-like, but so what... Spanish jams always bliss. It starts out from Billy, and a little earlier than the mp3 break shows it... Jerry is next, the Phil... I love these. The gong is perfect!

Cryptical... Jerry's guitar sounds like a razor in the intro, nice. Cutting through skulls like butter... Young Bobby, what a different voice from say an 80s estimated... hiiyeeeaahhh. Come in around, in a circle. Cryptical reprise was actually made of lightning.

That China Cat is prime Jerry man... 3 minutes long, but doesn't matter, Jerry crams as much jam into that as he possibly could and it couldn't have been better. The transition to the Eleven is seamless, and rocked my mind.

The Dark Star is a little odd, lots of washboard... similar to cowbell, a little goes a long way.

It is a crying shame that Dew is cut in the beginning... drat it all... oh well, it is 40 years old!

The Dew, Schoolgirl, China Cat > 11, and Lovelight are all so-so for the year imo, and the Midnight Hour encore is disappointing. I could not, however, agree more with the view on the meat of the show - the Potato > Cross Eyed > Spanish Jam > Alligator > Caution. WOW!!

A lot of people make this a top 5 ever show, and I've felt that way on occasion, but I've been more impressed with the DP22 stuff lately.

Relistened to this at the most recent LP...

OK, now I know I am burnt out on 60s dead... because reading my old reviews, I didn't get anything like that this time around.
Hilites this time around where the Spanish Jam and the Alligator>Caution.

Lowlites? I can't shake the feeling that these early jams are too predictable. I can almost air guitar what Jerry is going to do... its not because I have heard this show too many times, but because they didn't go as far out. I mean, I can barely remember even listening to a show unless I have heard it 3 or more time... so I am surely not remembering the notes within the shows very often!
Another problem... primitive Jerry. This goes back into the above problem as well... a synergy of problems if you will. Its still Jerry, and he's still the man, but its just we less interesting to me. Sure, full of energy, but not as interesting.

Anyhow, still a fundamental show... but I think I view it a lot differently nowadays.
