STATEMENT TO MP3 SITE OPERATORS
The Grateful Dead and our managing organizations have long encouraged the purely non-commercial exchange of music taped at our concerts and those of our individual members. That a new medium of distribution has arisen - digital audio files being traded over the Internet - does not change our policy in this regard. Our stipulations regarding digital distribution are merely extensions of those long-standing principles and they are as follow:

No commercial gain may be sought by websites offering digital files of our music, whether through advertising, exploiting databases compiled from their traffic, or any other means.
All participants in such digital exchange acknowledge and respect the copyrights of the performers, writers and publishers of the music.
This notice should be clearly posted on all sites engaged in this activity.
We reserve the ability to withdraw our sanction of non-commercial digital music should circumstances arise that compromise our ability to protect and steward the integrity of our work.

In light of this, there will be no posting of SBDs of shows which have been officially released. However, the rest is far game, and here is how you get it!
Arr!

Recommended procedures -
1) Use

2) Download the

add-on

3) Use the links provided in this forum to go to the show you want
4) When you have entered a show's link, right click anywhere in the blank space on the page, then select "Download Them All"
5) Now, in the window that just popped up, look for the space called "fast-filtering" and enter the following "vbr.mp3, .txt" (this will make it so all the files that you want are pre-selected, greatly speeding up the process)
6) Select the destination for the downloads before you begin (note, all the files to download will automatically be high-lighted IF you followed step 5), then, begin

All of the shows available from the Grateful Dead will fit easily on a 500GB Hard Drive, leaving you plenty of room for other shows. I recommend you download them all as soon as you can get them, who knows how long the above referenced policy will remain in effect. I further recommend you burn Data DVDs to back up all material, in case your Hard Drive ever fails. Each can hold 4.7GB of MP3 files. It will take less than 50 discs.

CAVEAT - DO NOT CONVERT MP3 BACK INTO LOSSLESS - OK!?

Note, the downloading steps above have been further simplified.
It is now a 6 step process, and easier still than before.
Thanks for paying attention to me.

Hey all. First off, thanks for setting up these links.

One question, I noticed a fair amount of shows in the late 80's (in particular 88 and 89) have some links that result in a server error. Is there a workaround for this that you would suggest?

Having these links here have been a huge time saver.

Thanks!

If there is a server error, it probably has something to do with the archive site where it comes from. If you send me a PM with specific links, I can look into it.

Also, you can only download the MP3, even though you can see the FLAC/SHN files... if you tried to download the FLAC that would explain the error.

Oh, Jack talk Thai... Jack talk Thai real good - sorry, that's a movie quote, couldn't resist.

Hmmm, I am sure there are some random deadheads over there... I know we had a member from Malaysia for example... and I want to say our map had hits from Thailand before, and it looks like there is one there now...

Hello from Slap the Drummer - who just wandered in from the cold, the rain, oh and the snow as well.

Just to say a big thank you to the folks who set all these links up - that looks like a lot of (boring) work! I hope the great Karmic Wheel will reward you (of course it will).

Hey Slap, and welcome... this was done merely in the spirit of the GD's generous and ground breaking sharing policy.
The answer man informs me that it was incredibly mind numbing.

OK, confused new guy here.

I have a Mac. I have not been able to figure out a way to download any way other than selecting each track individually. Do I have to have Firefox on a PC in order to do batches of tracks?

Thanks for helping out. I will do them al individually if I have to but...

Download i-getter Hugo. Then make in an add-on to Safari. Once you make it an add-on to your browser then all you have to do is same as for Firefox. Create a macro for the mp3 files in options. Then right click on link to the show and pick download all with i-getter or open the link and do same. Go into options drop down, pick the path you want the files to go to and select your macro for the file type. I sent them directly to my external HD that I am using to store the shows to save a copy/generation. It will still hit the 64 mp3, but this will get any stray Mac users in the right direction. What I do is then sort in the destination folder by size. Then I can bulk delete all the "broken" ones. Some shows will download both types of MP3 and you just have to either cancel them in the i-getter cue before they download or later in your destination folder.

I still don't know what the heck is going on here, but I am not wasting any time figuring it all out my fellow heads.

Well, so 8 years later, I am back here trying to figure out how to get iGetter into my new Safari browser. I have it on the machine & all the same configurations as prior, but can not get it to show up in the Archive window. Somehow it seems like I put the address for Archive into IG prior, but the past is catching up w me & CRS onset appears imminent.
