Ok, I am not generally a big fan of this song. It is often bungled, and often slow. I do like the jam at the end, but if the rest of the song is lame to me, I am not satisfied.

However, when pulled off properly, this song is pretty damn cool.

Give me some examples so I can actually stop avoiding shows with Crazy Fingers in the 2nd set...

I know what you mean.
Most of the ones in 82 are pretty tight as I recall but in later years it could be tentative.
Some good ones in 87 -
Red Rocks - 8/11/87 - Crazy Fingers>Samson to open set II. Sweet version
4/3/87 Woooster has a pretty good version
Roanoke 87 (forget the date) Space>CF>TRuckin>Comes A Time>Sugar Mag - i recall a good CF but its been a while.
9/19/87 - you probably listened to this recently - good or bad??
4/23/88 has a nice Playin>Crazy Fingers. I was at this show and recall a beautiful version. I was tripping hard, but still...

10/8/83 has the return of CF - Jerry flubs a few lines but otherwise its pretty good.
6/27/85 Kermit the Frog takes over but its competent, and in Set I.
Maybe delve into 76. 9/30/76 has a 15 minute version that goes into, of all things, Its All Over Now. Not sure how the vocal section is, but I'd wager to guess Jerry remembered most of the words.

This got me on a Crazy Fingers quest.
Another good one is 7/17/88 Greek. Well executed. Vocal section good, nice jam.
Box, Victim>Crazy Fingers>Playin>UJB>D>S>GDTRFB>Watchtower>Believe It Or Not>T Stones>NFA

Mediocre... I will check out some of those other ones. Every so often I hear a great one, but its one of those somes that I never really remember the dates on... you know how it is...
Anyhow, let's take that quest together, though I have to wait until tonight when I get home from work.

CF is a transitional song. Too often they just coast on this one. The upshot is that it's a good one to move in and out of. Last remarkable one I heard recently was from 9/7/90 -- not so much for the song, but the transition from Truckin is really cool. For me the early ones will always be the best. My fave is still probably 6-17-75.

It's been a bit since I listened to it but I think there is a good one on 6/18/89 Shoreline. I was there and remember that they did a good one. The whole set was good. Also try Frost 10/10/82 It's a great set and everything is pretty well played. For a little different take MSG 9/21/82.....the show starts with Playin>Crazy Fingers> MAMU> Big River.

All a very nice pre-drums.

Not to digress, but another nice aspect of Phil's post-Jerry run (in addition to rearranging the end of Terrapin and killing on Unbroken Chain) was delivering the goods on the intro to Crazy Fingers. An excellent example comes from Jones Beach, 8/9/93 (with "The Dead," another Lesh vehicle Very Happy ). Jerry used to rush through this wonderful bit of suger; it always baffled me when he would rush the intro to a song (and then blow the lyrics).

Tiziano, you had asked about versions of this song, and I found this previous thread, so I am bumping it up.

Please use the larger of the two Crazy Fingers threads to comment further on the song...
