Please use this thread to post single song recommendations. No more than one per day and multiple people can post in a day.
I listen to GD pretty randomly like that and it would be cool to check out some of your picks along the ride.

Thanks Very Happy

Since He's Gone is in the sandwich here, I think it falls under the realm of song of the day. Hate to be difficult, but I am really digging it.

Morning Dew from 5/2/87. Jerry shreds this one. fumbles slightly at the end, but the middle solo has some serious fanning and general off-the-hook-ness.
Show has a short but intense Playin into a majestic Terrapin as well.

You guys quitting on me already?
I listened to all you had to offer....good stuff, 'cept that LLR China Rider posted that doesn't exist. The Dew by Dude and Cumblerland by filmore were sick!

2/26/81 China Rider is my pick of the day.

A lot of you will hate this selection, but it's a dandy version of Dancin in the Street if you stick with it..

yeah, i think there's a lot of Dancin haters here... Trust me, this one is awesome. Just push yourself through the song part at the beginning and you will be rewarded.

I am at the 8 minute mark now....great stuff! Killer sound quality and everybody is on, X-factor for sure(great Bobby guitar). Most of the Dancin's I have heard were from late 70s onward....this is much better!

I love how chill it starts... Bobby sounds really mellow. Totally unassuming song and then WHAM!

Damn, why would they stop playing that tune? They were so dialed in on HCS at the end of 73. What happened?

Nice...killer show. Check out the Space>Dew from 4/14/84. A criminally neglected show.

Dec 93, hugely underrated. I love the 17th, and the 12th, 13th, and 19th... Though if you want to hear nice Jerry singing, look elsewhere, this is all about the guitar making up for terrible vox...

Big Railroad Blues [7:37] - 10/21/83
This will put "The Dead" version to shame, and in doing so perfectly encapsulates my major gripe (where did the up-tempo songs go)...

And... 3/31/88 LIG is NICE!

He is probably still sleeping it off, to awake with a post nitrous crispy brain. Laughing
My new tune of the day - the crushing Victim that precedes Crazy Fingers on 7/17/88. I usually don't dig it but this one has a lot of power for an early version.
Forgot what a great show this is.

12/1/66 should have it... or 11/19/66 (I think)... we did a thread about just that song, were we talked about each of the 7-8 performances they did of it.

That's not bad at all. I like the way Jerry has moved into the partnership with Bobby that Donna used to occupy in this song.

I kind of like Donna's contribution here, though and 1976-06-11 is what does it for me. But yeah. It's a good song for tonight.

I usually skip CC but I actually listened to this one and it was good, better than most i've heard...maybe it's just that i listen to it so infrequently that this one was a little better than others i remember?

edit: or it can be explained as it's song i don't usually give a chance and i did this time, and it was good

I get what you mean. All of the sudden it will grab you and pull you in, and Jerry is shredding the blues. Rooster does that to me. Have you ever checked out the CC Rider from 12/5/81? In the middle of the song they speed up the tempo. Pretty cool

This CC Rider really stood out - 6-9-84 - a show which we just listened to a few weeks ago, a Swami Special.

New Orleans - 6/6/70

I enjoyed this song immensely.... mostly because I had never heard it played before.
Some flubbed lyrics here and there, but the high energy surely makes up for it.

Good call. This is just an amazing show all around. I listened to it and 9/11/83 this weekend, both are simply awesome.

Big RR Blues is also one of my current favs, so 83-84 really helps feed the need.

Check out the one from 10/18/84. Another shredder that acheives X factor lift off.

I really don't care much for Shakedown Street...but I have just been shaken by 12/11/79.

3/7/81 Circumstantial Jam. Seamless transition from Saint - they continue on a nice saint-ish theme for a few minutes, then it dissolves - drums? NO. Jerry picks up an Uncle Johns-ish theme and the rest of the band follows through a nice uptempo jam, which eventually twists and turns, getting a little darker. The last minute or so is Weir and Brent getting crazy. Real good stuff. This whole show is becoming a listening staple for me. Jerry is peeling the paint off the ceiling the whole show.

Iko Iko [7:34] > Lost Sailor [6:13] > Saint Of Circumstance [6:51] > Jam [12:14] > Drums [7:09]

Also the Birdsong>LL Rain>Deal is nothing short of SICK. 17 minute B-song, and a 10 minute Deal that Jerry drives into the ozone. Must listens IMO.

8/3/82 - Cumberland

Usually not a song I chase around but decided to try it out on this matrix(awesome quality) and it smokes.

Great version of Cumberland. Love that matrix - a serious upgrade as the SBD always sounded flat. that whole show smokes in a smoking week.

But please, someone, give me some feedback on the 3/7/81 Circumstantial Jam..It's really cool. You all are just trying to drive me insane right??
And while I'm on the subject, am I the only one who has listened to the 1981 Cole Field House show?? If you have been ignoring this nugget, you are a big fat loser.

What is the best source on this one? I just dialed up the middle of the board, and it sounds good so far.
The jam is pretty sweet.

Which show are you talking about?? 8/3/82 or 3/7/81?? the 3/7/81 show does not have a SBD - best source is the Barry Glassberg recording

As part of my lifelong goal to avoid becoming a big fat loser, I made it a point this morning to start my day by dialing up 3-17-81.

Really nice show.

One the finest Birdsong's these ears have heard.

Always up for a new sailor>saint, and the jam is a nice bonus. Whole 2nd set is a sweet listen. I like the crowd effect once in a while, and this is a good example why.

Thanks, Dude, for bullying me into this show.

Foolish Heart - 9/28/94

Dont be fooled by the date...this is one of the best I have ever heard...the jam after ".......but a.foolish heart is worse" maybe be the longest ever played (3:45) and it's hectic and very nicely executed..

I guess this fits here, didn't know where else to post. I believe the boys have a GREAT deal of influence on my overall temprement. 3 day stretch in the kitchen, 39 hours, ready to kill, but come home to 1976/06/29, Mission in the Rain and Peggy-O and all is good! Ready for a 12 hour gig momentarily and its alright......There has to be a connection......My song(s) of the day. Have a good one all!

Katie Mae - 4/3/70

Pig and Jerry solo.

Some folks say she must be a Cadillac,
But I say she got to be a T-model Ford,
Yeah, she got the shape all right,
But she ain't fit to carry a heavy load.

6/22/73 Bird Song....Not usually a huge fan of Bird Song, but this one is as spacey and dreamy as any of them.....Clocks in at 13:49, and is definately my favorite.....The whole show aint too shabby either, a five disc bomb Shocked
