I Know You Rider -- 10/25/73 Madison

The China->Rider combo here isn't important.

Listen to the Rider. Now. I implore you!

Wild Horses from The Other Ones 6-26-98. Phil's voice actually fits this song pretty good.

This song gets trashed quite a bit for some reason, and I'm always pimping this show, but I'm sitting here in the airport and am once again very impressed by how hot the T Jed is from 3/20/91.

3/20/91 is a super solid show. Dont remember the Jed specifically - maybe I should check it out. For some reason they really liked to play it in DC.

I am pretty sure I have heard that one before, good one if I remember right.

My song of the day is sweet 10/31/79 Eyes of the World with a very interesting outro into drumspace.

Set-ending combo of Jed, Music No Stop and Might as Well absolutely smokes. TMNS is much better than I remember. Easily the best first set I saw in 91.

Yes, that was me. I love this show (I caught it at the tender age of 17), especially that insane first set. BTW, Jerry had a long sleeve, black, button down "Mafia" shirt on this show.
My SOTD is Shakedown 5/16/81. Wow. The interplay between Jerry and Brent is reminiscent of 4/6/82 and the whole jam is stellar. Then to boot it goes into a high energy Bertha.

It Hurts Me Too from 10/22/67--Pig in top form and Garcia's playing is nothing short of brilliant. Also hass That's It For The Other One before Weir changed the lyrics to his piece in the suite. I usually don't go back past 68, but this one caught my eye.

Listening to the show right now. Freakin' hot shit. It definitely anticipates the '68 "Take no prisoners" Dead.

Oh yes, similar to 10/18/72, with the Philo Stomp, which if I remember right was also in the 10/24/72 Other One. Among my favorites. Around this time, Dark Star started to break away from the general form it had for most of 72.

Add the SOTM from this show on the list...the intro is eerily awesome, heart felt Garcia singing(something about that '93 voice gets me every time) and the outro is dripping with X-factor Exclamation

Looks Like Rain from Weir's Ace album w/The boys as backup band. This song gets alot of bashing because there are not many well executed live versions. This version is superior to any one performed live. BTW does anyone know if they ever performed Walk in the Sunshine in concert. This is not a good song-I'm really asking out of curiosity.

I agree that 9-6-80 is the best! 12-28-79 seems a tad overrated to me--at least by Kotchman who says "best ever"--the noodling seems slightly aimless at times, whereas 9-6-80 proceeds more methodically to transcendence. I suppose Kotchman will say I am simply wrong.

I strongly reccomend 6/21/80 Sugaree in Alaska!

2/27/77 Scarlet Bagonias - A beautifully ferocious stand alone.

9/6/80 still wins for me, therefore it's my song of the day!

Check out 9/2/80 - might be better than 9/6/80
Also 4/19/83 is a great one - opens set 2.

I would heartily recommend doing that tour. Super strong (especially 80/29-9/6) and for some reason, kind of under the radar. I was fortunate to catch the 8/31/80 show. There are 1 or two I have not listened to but they seemed to be "in the zone" for that tour. The Uptown Theatre run, Pine Knob and Cleveland are smokin too.

8/30/80 is probably my all time favorite Spectrum show.

4/10/71 - Good Lovin Cool - maybe it's not necessary to point out that Good Lovin was a hot song in '71, but MAN what a jam!! Overlooked show.

I listened to 11/22/85 the other night, it was fun but wasn't overly impressed.

Speaking of Estimated - 4/3/82!

I have a grainy photo my friend took at that show of Bobby raising his hands up during Estimated. The Scarlet>Fire is off the hook. I like where it disintegrates down to drumz then Phil kicks in with the Fire riff.

Good Lovin - 4/24/72

Really nice effort by the entire band. A sick blues jam with Pigpen giving it his all.

5/9/77. Comes a Time. I listened to it 3 times in a row during my plane flight last night. Beautiful, heart-felt version. And Garcia's lead at the end is enough to make a grown man cry.

Listening to that show right now. Awesome. I'm a big 73/74 fan. There's a certain silence and stillness in the music around that time that attracts me. But it's very easy to see why many people think they peaked in 77. Garcia's voice is so well-developed and all the players are firing on all cylinders. This seems to be the year they could truly be called "The omnipotent Grateful Dead."

Black Throated Wind - 11/22/72

Spirited vocals, mad soloing by Garcia, trippy and brilliant boggie-woogie piano from Keith.

9/16/93 Rain>Shakedown

whoa. I'm taking a rare dip into post-91 and was very impressed. Not saying this is the hottest Shakedown I've ever heard, but it's tight and exactly what I want right now, and was way way better than I expected. Plus the Rain sounded great. Talk about an opener!
