This is something that I have been wanting to do for a while. Well here is the first show I have uploaded. It is JGB 1989-08-26. This seems to be a first come first seve basis. First 10 get it. Also this is the show with Jimmy Cliff singing Harder They Come.

This is not a concert but an internet radio station tribute to Garcia right after he died. This includes some interviews with Jerry and people that knew him. Also included is some Grateful Dead songs (most officially released) also some JGB and some stuff with Merl Saunders. This is in a radio format just as a warning for anyone expecting a concert. Still I think everyone should have this.

I think this band and Garcia/Wales are my favorite side projects. Too bad both were short lived.

1989-12-11 Rockline Interview with Garcia and Weir. This is a call in show, most of the questions are from random Deadhead callers. It is pretty funny. Just if 200 people could have worn good alligator costumes. Listen to understand.

First off, THANK YOU!! for what you're putting up here. You and the tunez rock.

I've a question regarding the Rockline upload. The tracks are marked 1,3,5,7...etc. Is there more of this? All good if there ain't cuz what's here IS good...and Jerry was always such a great interview. Thanx again.

Peace.

My bad. The even-numbered tracks appear to have been the music trax (Touch of Grey, Picasso Moon, etc.) aired during the broadcast.

38 minutes of grinning here to be had. Thanx again for putting these up.

Peace.

Not a problem. I didn't feel a need to upload the music tracks. They were all songs played directly from the studio albums Built To Last and In The Dark. I will be gettin more up soon. I am glad you are enjoying these. Also check out my blog for somethings that wont be posted over here.

dogstarz,
aikowolf told me about mediafire.com

I suggest you use that, you can queue up several files to be posted at once, and it seems to upload much faster (I can get up to 700kbps UL speed using it).

Also, they don't delete files after 90 days or 10 uploads.
There is an issue, your files have to be 100MB or smaller each. So, a 340MB show would take 4 files. WinRAR can automatically break up larger files into such increments for you.

So megaupload is not the way to go huh. Cause speed would be a nice thing. Also, I would like to say that I will have to get these things uploaded tomorrow. I shut down my web browser for some reason before work....DOH!!!!

And some Grateful Dead that isn't on the archive. This is a compilation called Jammin' At The Edge of Magic. Its a bunch of jams spliced together during the Bruce era. The person who did this, did a pretty good job in my opinion.

“Other”

11/20/70 Boston (Jerry, Bob & Duane Allman)
The date on this one says "11/20/70, Boston," which I'm going to immediately call suspect as the Dead were in Rochester on the 20th...though they were in Boston the following night. This was apparently a radio broadcast, WBCN, Boston, though let the buyer beware: sound qual is ghastly, like tape deck on the nightstand kinda shit, but for it's historical curiosity...

The scene's a hotel room in Boston and the Dead and the Allmans (though Duane's the only one heard...) are in attendance. After the first 2 songs the DJ makes mention of how impossible the vocals are, and they do improve, if only to less-annoying levels.

To be fair, Duane's little more than "in attendance" for this one as none of the Allmans brought instruments. Jerry & Bob run through some acoustic numbers, then Jerry surrenders his seat and guitar to Duane, who warms a little with an Angie instrumental before backing Bob on the old country standard Let Me In.

SA-WEET!

For those of you who don't yet know, the Eel River acoustic set Dogstarz just linked in the above post is one of the all-time great Jerry un-plugged's. That one you must have!

You're more than welcome, Dogstarz. I'm just happy to be able to contribute. It really is the least I can do with the GRATE stuff you've been posting here. Fantastic tunez! Thanx!

From the stuff I posted today, definitely check out 4/29/90 and 4/19/75. The former is Jerry, Nick Gravenites, and "Animal Mind." It's got a distinctive Paul Butterfield Blues Band vibe to it (tho sans harp). Nick handles all the vocals but that guitar is unmistakable. 4/19/75 is Legion of Mary and it's a honey. Great sound and Martin's having a good night indeed.

Peace.

Damn, Dog, that is a sweet looking set-up! Between here and your blog, you've been getting some serious work done. Very, very cool on all counts!

Truth be known, I had to trim the original 'batch o' boards' back by a couple shows (4/10/82 (, Very Happy ) and a couple Garcia/Saunders sets) as you'd delightfully beaten me to that punch. I've still got somewhere around 20 more JGB shows to put, the remaining sbd's and some decent aud's, then I'll have emptied the well for now.

Awesome effort, Dog!

...And here's a pair I wanted to cut from the pack...

The first, my all-time favorite Garcia-Grisman set, this from December, '91 (please note the frigging GORGEOUS God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen instrumental...). This show's sweet from front to back, kicking off with a benchmark Shady Grove, going straight into a Sitting Here In Limbo that's just knock-down beautiful. For those of y'all more familiar with Jerry serving that tune up with JGB, you must check this one out. I've been loving this one for a couple years and tossed it back into the stereo the other night. 3 nights and 4 complete plays through and this one just keeps loving me...

Great sound, great performance.

Don't think. Just do.

...And only 'cuz I'm just enough of a dink to serve up some Pigpen in a Jerry thread... Laughing

These are Pig's fabled "Apartment Demo's," cut over a series of dates, '64, '66, and '73. Lacking a more appropriate place to tuck these, but still wanting to pass 'em along...

I have started uploading some more shows. This time around I have started with more Reconstruction. Merl Saunders is the shiznit and is a perfect accomplice to Jerome. Hopefully my internet won't do the normal internet thing that I have been experiencing (it decides to stop working on a pin drop).

I just want to express my eternal thanx to you both, dogstarz and mudcat for this treasure chest of shows. Just when I was getting in the slightest of ruts Shocked wandering the halls of The Band on a daily basis, I now trip over this and I feel as if I've found the thirteenth floor to go running all around in.

That is exactly why I am doing this man. To help make people's day. I see it as someone hooked me up once (and many people still are) so the least I can do is give back to the community. You have no idea how much you have helped out a rather crappy, mundane day.

Notes:
* The widely circulating material with this date is
actually from 3/9/79. The present material appears
to be the real 3/8/79 show.
* The levels on the source CDs were very low (28% peaks),
so I normalized to 98% using EAC's Process Wave function.
* d1t08 Make it Better first few seconds appear to be at
very high speed. Not sure where this anomaly comes from,
but it might be fixable.

A huge thanks is directed towards Kochman who put up 1978 and 1979 full year torrents of Jerry. I have both and all will be posted. So expect more in the coming days.

It's unfortunate that these links are dead. This is an outstanding show!! The copy of this I have is an irecorded, low quality copy of my previous cassette SBD copy. If anyone has information about where I could get an upgrade, I'd be grateful.

Additionally, in this post, I noticed the list for set one on 10/11/75. I have a similar copy of most of the second set SBD, also recorded on my irecord. Amazing Let It Rock to open, Tore Up, Mission In The Rain, (missing Lady Sleeps > No Time), Mystery Train, E: Edward. Again, any help in obtaining an upgrade would be appreciated!

DHT or Distributed Hash Tables is a way of torrenting without usig a tracker such as Dimeadozen, losslesslegs etc. , nor does it use a server such as Rapidshare or Mega Upload. It is supported by utorrent, and allows one user to send a file to another user's computter directly, at very high speeds. All that is needed is a broadband connection and freeware that is associated with normal torrenting.

Cool! I'll look into it after work today and get the freeware downloaded. Beware, I may be a pest! That list has me all kinds of excited! There are a lot of shows I haven't seen anywhere or are going to be welcome upgrades to a lot of the shows I irecorded from my old cassettes. Thanks again for your ultra generous offer!

all you need on your end is utorrent, and trader's little helper to convert flac/shn files into wav or mp3 .

Well, I'm a mac user, but I do have a program to covert lossless to mp3. So it looks like all I'll need is the utorrent software. That SHOULD be easy, but you never know!

Okay, I have downloaded the application, but it does not open. It does appear in my application folder though. Having never used this software before, I'm not sure if that is normal or not. Also, I don't know how the sharing part works either. If you don't mind giving me a little additional info, I will continue to work on getting prepared for greatness!
Thanks!

Okay, so the utorrent is sitting on my desktop and looks like an additional hard drive. It does show up in the applications, but I'm not exactly sure what is supposed to happen or what it should look like if/when it works. Damn my technical inabilities!

I'm a mac user as well, when you go to use the program make sure you use the one that's in the application folder. The thing that looks like an additional hard drive is how it installs, and you can eject it after it's in your application folder. I've had stability issues with using a program from the mounted disk image thingy (the thing that looks like a hard drive). Any specific mac questions I'll do my best to answer or find out Smile

Sorry folks, I've been really busy this week. I'll get a post up again when I'm sure the utorrent is working correctly in my applications!
Thanks!

Again there may be a repost or two in here, but my adult A.D.D. prevented me from searching the whole thread against what I have. :) All are at least 192 MP3 at least & some 320's in there & all shows are good quality. Not all sbd's, though, but the aud's are crisp...

Thank you for this, I just downloaded and am listening now! I agree with what it says in the text file:

If I had One Chance to show
to someone who has never heard him,
how Jerry Garcia played Guitar,
this one would be my choice,
above everything so far.

This looks fantastic. I can't wait to check this out over the weekend. Muchos Garcias!

And FYI, thejerrysite.com indicates that this is actually 1972-06-30.

The Jerrysite does say that but read the text file. This is what Jamie Waddell had to say about the tape...

"The date may be in dispute from multi gen sources, citing 6-30.
The date on the reel box that Jerry owned of his own performance said 9 1 72.
You can draw your own conclusion, amazing music regardless of the confusion.

If I had One Chance to show
to someone who has never heard him,
how Jerry Garcia played Guitar,
this one would be my choice,
above everything so far."

Thanks for this, augustwest! I didn't know there was a new gems transfer of this, but I'm stoked for the upgrade. Don't know that I'd rank this the best JG performance ever, but I'm very happy to be able to add this show to the list of reasons why Sept 72 was the best 30 days of Garcia's career. Smile

I didn't say this was the best performance ever.Shocked I said that Jerry is playing & singing @ his very best. That's not saying that it is THE best ever?? There are many, many shows where he played @ his best. 3-8-80 @ The Stone is another show where, I think, he plays to the best of his ability & on the After Midnight> Eleanor Rigby he is playing with everything he has & maybe a bit of extraterrestrial assistance? LOL! :)

Thanks August. This is an upgrade over the previous version, no doubt. As for the date, who cares!? I left the old one under 6/30 and put the upgrade at 9/1.

I feel your pain, man!! My daughter just turned 11 in June & school has started again??? She'll have the home phone stuck to her ear & texting on her cell phone, which I was completely against her having. She doesn't even like going to shows anymore? "Everyone is weird!" I asked, what about your Mom & I?? She replied, "Yeah, but everyone else is weirder" :) I'm not as worried about boys as I am Lady Gaga! I hope she grows outta that crap?? Glad I could help & you are very welcome...

Don't be sorry that's what this community is all about, or at least it used to be? That was not in any way directed to anyone on this site. I've decided that I will not attend anymore Festivals after our experince @ Allgood this year & a friend's horror tales of Gathering of The Vibes & I'm still a little sickened by the whole "scene". Ya know? But that's completely off the subject. As for the daughter issue, I never gave my parents any problems at all. I swear it? :) Not 'til my Sophmore year & then it wasn't too bad, so I don't know what I did to deserve this punishment?? I have 2 complete opposite children, though. My son is 8 & he has never missed more than 2 questions on any homework or any test, plays 2 instruments, & has never raised his voice to anyone, but Alex, my 10 yr old daughter, she could give half a [CENSORED] about school?? She's very smart, but now all she cares about is what celebrity is cheating on who & when Lady Gaga is gonna be close enough to go see live! Her exact words were, "Papaw used to take you all over the country to see Gary Garcia & you won't even take me to New York!!" :) :) :) Gary Garcia!!!??!! I had to laugh at her, thus making her furious at me & she still hasn't said 2 words to me all week?? I even got unlimited texting on her phone, which I hate, & gave her Mom cash to take her shopping. Maybe I should take her shopping, but I'm not hip enough to know where to take her?? I never thought that I would be "not cool, Dad" :( Sorry for the rant, but I needed it?? Good luck, Tizi, I can't imagine what I'll be going through when she's 13???
